If was curious if I could get a little advice from those in the industry. I am a former NWA poolie from 2008. Had a child born with a terminal illness, and decided with the wife finishing residency, I would stay home, at least until called for a class at nwa, which didn’t happen pool was flushed. I left flying in 2008 and returned to a regional last year after my son passed away. My question is for all the folks here with knowledge of hiring. At 43, 6500 hours, mostly all 121, mostly airbus, crj 0 tpic, upgrade at my current regional is another year out min, no busts, failures, no training issues after the long time out. Would a swa, ual, delta give me a chance? Is there anything I can do to help? Thanks in advance.

I am truly sorry. I cannot envision anything more difficult to endure.
Have you considered FedEx or UPS? You are young and have plenty of time. I would jump through all the hoops that are required nowadays and start applying.

Reading about the classes at the majors, seems like the top age in most classes is age 50+. Some as much as 58-60. So, there should be plenty of time.
In another couple of years, mid-40s and you get hired on by one of the majors, you likely will be able to spend several years in the left seat. For the big 3 legacy, half of all the pilots will retire in 10 years.
Most classes go on age for base selection, so you likely can get your choice, assuming it is on the list for your class.
I would add my condolences for your son, you made a good decision.

Very sorry to hear about your sons passing. I am glad to know you made family your priority. Like others have said, you have plenty of time to make it. I hope you find your way to United. It would be a pleasure to have you part of our family. Best of luck!

My respect to you and your family.
I was hired at SWA just prior to turning 41 a couple years ago, and I was only in the middle of the class of 26. Oldest was in the 50’s.
You are back at a good time. Shotgun the apps out and work on that upgrade in the mean time.
