I meant to ask if SDF was junior or senior in my original thread, maybe someone will jump in. Being local a few UPS pilots attend the same church, and a few others I know from networking. I always kind of never thought about working for UPS, the smaller trips of the whole PAX airlines has attracted me. But I would imagine when you get senior at UPS you can bid what you want?

He was on the DC-8. When they retired it, they had some new planes coming the following year. The company didn't want to do a bump-n-flush for -8 guys, and then repeat that (with all the training costs) a year later when the new planes arrived so they just paid those guys to sit home for a year.

You’re already ahead of the networking game. Freight is definitely different that PAX operations but pick their brain and see if it’s something you’d like down the road. Especially if you live in SDF. What can brown do for you? The answer is pay you a LOT of money for you to be based out of SDF at home.

Yes. My buddy settled in SDF after the Navy (both from midwest), used to bid reserve. His usual interaction with the company was about once a month he'd call them up and ask for a trip so he didn't forget how to fly.

There’s a schedule at UPS to suit just about any Louisville area resident…
Reserve (many “professional reserves” here)
Turn lines (out and backs)
Base Trip Lines (more/shorter trips)
Week on/off
International fleets have longer trips & blocks of reserve, up to 14 days.
I did morning turns for almost 4 years, with the exception of the June/July bid when I did day flying. I think I had less than 20 hotel stays each of those years, and a bulk of those stays I did have were self-induced via trip pickup or trading.
Night flying ain’t easy, but the QOL that comes from living in domicile cannot be overstated.
