I ran into a PSA F/O today. He has a little over 900 hours CRJ SIC time and has an interview scheduled with UAL in a month or two. He does have a college degree but did the standard route via ATP Flight School, CFI time, then to PSA.

I think this will be the next big question to circulate the industry. How soon is too soon? I have friends at UAL waiting to send me a LOR as soon as I drop an app. Not wanting to put the horse before the carriage myself, I figured I’d drop the app after consolidating and getting the unrestricted ATP. I’ll keep updating from there. Good luck everyone!

You state this using what data?

The economic fact that it’s more beneficial to hire a pilot from your competitors instead of one of your suppliers. Every regional CA they hire hurts their feed to a hub, every ULCC FO they hire hurts their biggest competitor. Almost everyone at a ulcc who has submitted an app in the last month has gotten a call, no 121 turbine PIC required. In fact my ULCC right now looks at PIC as a detriment and thinks it makes you more likely to be un trainable or have bad habits. A320 type trumps cl-65 or EMB-175 pic right now. Plus all 3 majors already fly the bus, less chance you’ll fail.

Get your app in now and building onto it. Once you are in the competitive ball park 800-1000 hours 121 time. Get them reviewed.

With all due respect, I wasn’t trying to be a smart ass. It was a legitimate question.

Interesting. Maybe I should be getting my apps in sooner rather than later. I was a mechanical engineering for Honeywell Aerospace prior to flying Part 135 and being a CFI. So similar route.

Can you submit your apps and still change/update all the info after the fact? On both airlineapps and pilot credentials? I know you can update your hours, but I wasn’t sure if you could overhaul the whole app after submitting it and then getting it reviewed. I’ve already had both reviewed anyways, but just curious.

Yes, and you should continue to update it regularly. Updating it shows interest in the perspective carrier.

Edit: but get your app in. If you don’t have your app in, you certainly will not get hired wether or not you have a single hour in a jet or 10,000.
