I don't mind that and have no problem learning the ropes of 121 world at a regional for a bit, but I really want to get to the big 3 asap for obvious reasons. If I can bypass the regionals I want to. But I also know there is a lot of knowledge to be gained at the regionals during a short stint too.

Yeah but I can't live on $47,000 in the first year otherwise I would be applying there.

VERY few pilots with your resume are getting hired at the larger majors. Probably zero at the Big 3.

I don't get the desire to bypass the regionals. Get more training, fly a new jet, a larger jet, and make yourself better. Showing ability to go through training and pass a 121 type rating course is a solid resume improvement.Improving your resume instead of focusing on a way to 'avoid the regionals' is a better plan. Apply to EVERYONE that improves your resume if you are flexible enough. I had 5 jobs in the first 5 years of my career...including 2.5 yrs at one company. Could you get hired by a major right now? It's a low probaiblty shot. You have to take the shot but improving your resume will improve your odds of the low Pk shot.

Honestly though, is flying an E-170 or CRJ-700/900 much different than slipping into a 737 or 320?
Yes you caused a few to spit up their eggnog with that comment. The issue that you should be concerned about is not landing the jet, but surviving the course to get to the point they allow you to land the jet. Going from a Cessna to a Boeing/Airbus/any RJ is multiple changes in environment and culture that you haven't seen or experienced. Take the time before you get a CJO to book learn as much as you can about high altitude/high speed ops into high density airports. Find a good read on understanding FAR 121 and get a handle on the differences to what you’ve been flying and teaching.

AAL hired a 23 y/o within the last 6 months...

Very similar history and resume. It's not impossible; his secret sauce was being a legacy; both Mom and Dad were AA. Good luck. If you have any AA specific questions, feel free to PM.

I don't disagree.

Are regionals even hiring low time FO's at the moment?

1500 hrs. CFI, pipeline patrol, banner tow, parachute jumpers... whatever gets you the time (1500 hrs) quickest. Reread that - whatever gets you the time quickest. Nothing in there about "I'd like to...". The quickest way to improve your resume is to start flying a larger jet. That's most likely at a regional airline AND you get 121 experience which includes the training. Whatever gets you to the 1500 hrs starting line fastest is job #1.

Not really. I have 1800 hours and nearly 400 single engine turbine. Left my CFI job when the FO hiring first slowed for a single engine turbine job. Was recently TBNT by SkyWest (with no interview), no response from Endeavor, no response from CommutAir, no response from Envoy, no response from Piedmont. Did not apply to Republic, GoJet, or PSA.

None of them really need FOs, and most are probably avoiding people who have more than the bare minimum 1500 hours as they feel pretty confident you'll leave for a better job within half a year.

It looks like things may slow down a bit in 2024. Honestly some stablization for the industry may not be a bad thing for those at the bottom end of the career rung. I know lots of people stuck CFI'ing right now. I'm at least happy I got out of that world and I'm flying something more complex.

You might want to look at NetJets. They're my next target, though the pay really isn't very good for new FOs. I'd take an over $20k paycut from my current gig to go be a NetJets FO.
