Note: Various federal agencies take "snapshots" of all state/local records and store them for intelligence, security, and background check purposes. You can safely assume that they will never expunge anything from those records since they are not accessible to the general public or most employers.

An expungement does not guarantee that it will never show up on a federal check.

Legally, an expungement means that the incident is removed from that jurisdiction's records, or sealed from public access. It does not mean the event never occurred. A state law regarding expungement does not apply to the federal government.

I'll look into this.

BTW, it doesn't seem to matter, as long as you're up-front about it. I just got hired into an E-170 class at Shuttle for March 25.

In the interview, I was aked the usual "Have you ever been convicted of a crime?" question. I answered "No, but if you pull my FBI file, you will see that I was arrested for DUI......". I then launched into my personal explanation. This seemed to satisfy them, and in fact, drew no funny looks or in any way made me feel uncomfortable that I had told on myself. The interviewer did note everything I disclosed, but that was to be expected. I was allowed to continue into the technical portion of the interview, then sim and fingerprints and the limo ride back to the terminal.

I got the call while in the limo, and was offered a class date.

We all are human, we all make mistakes. It's how we take responsibility for our actions that sets us apart from each other. Be honest, be prepared for rejection. Rejoice when your honesty and responsibility are acknowledged.

Hey guys....thanks to all who have given great information in this post! I too have at the age of 21 made the biggest mistake of my life last november. The final court date is coming up this april 08 and I have my fingers crossed to get interim probation which will get the dui charge knocked down after a year of good behavior. I recently applied to colgan for a test run and the guy on the phone said to try again when my matters are resolved. Im not sure if that meant call back when you dont have a DUI or when court is over? Anyway if after court is over any suggestions on how to really handle an interview and who is the best to apply to with the best chances of getting hired. I have a year of CFI experience with every rating other than ATP and just 1000 hrs and 150 multi

He meant to call back after court is all settled. Airlines (and many other employers) will generally never hire anyone with a pending trial or sentencing.
