To play devil's advocate to the two above posts:

Sure, don't post it, however what happens when they look at your 10 year history a little closer and find out you omitted an employer? Perhaps a longshot, but what if?

There was a guy in the class ahead of me that embellished his resume and got busted about 4 weeks into training. I don't know the reasons, I don't care to know. All I know is that he was asked to leave. He then proceeded to post a couple panicked messages here and be called out by fellow classmates.

So you have two approaches to take. Put it on the application, be prepared to discuss the reasons. Use the youthful mistake thing, and quite frankly, if you did what you say you did, you broke no law and showed good judgment in electing to not steal the item.

Or lie, and hope it is never found out and be prepared for the consequences if it is.

Personally, I'd rather be honest.

They didn't charge me with theft, since it didn't occur, but I did get "terminated" from that job. I was also explained that when applying for jobs, they must always check references from jobs you got fired from.
This is something I have never done before, and feel extremely guilty about. I'm also afraid I have tainted my professional future for ever. I worked at this store for 4 years, since I'd turned 18, so it's also a major part of my resume that I soiled.
My question is, how much will that affect me during the interview and application process from small regional airlines, all the way to the bigger and better jobs? Is this something I can wait out or repair somehow?
Please, any information or experienced opinion is greatly appreciated...

thanks in advance
Forget about flying. Pass go and go right to management as they are generally a shower of greedy, robbing bastards!!!

This happens at every airline, in about every other class. It is a not just a remote risk, airlines do check out your background. It's better to be honest, not get hired, and try again elsewhere than to get fired from a 121 operator for lying...you will not recover from that.

He's makes a good point here. Seriously though did you not carry out the plan because you were afraid of getting caught or because it was just wrong. There is a big difference between the two. We all make mistakes I guess some bigger than others. Once upon a time I nearly faced a similar fate but the CP backed me up as the issue was safety related.

Someone spank this dude for me. He posted asking for our advices and then disappear. Way to go buddy!! Anyhow what I would do is go back to your employer and bargain with them. Ask them to change their record from terminate to resign. Maybe you can offer to pay something or do some freework. If it doesn't work, go push your case up to corporate. Or maybe work somewhere else, stay out of trouble and bring your case back to them and ask them to remove it for you. Anyhow, worst case you can always fly oversea. They don't check for your record or whatever.
