Most allow long sleeve shirts at your discretion...it can get cold in the cockpit, especially if the CA is a huge pile of blubber and likes to crank the AC.

Saw a CRJ captain the other day walking through the terminal in PHL with a short sleeve uniform shirt, a three inch tattoo on his forearm in plain sight, and a larger one on his bicep just showing a little.

He didn't seem too concerned about covering it up.

All airlines have rules against it...maybe he's fed up and didn't care if he gets fired. Or maybe his chief pilot doesn't care...but you don't get to pick your CP, and most do care.

Many people have tats from a previous life and learn to navigate social obstacles. But if you have a future concern about your new tattoo causing you problems…why do it?

Do the airlines really care about this? cuz honestly if they don't I'm getting it done like next week, other wise I will hold on. I know that the military does care about this, so that's why I'm asking.

Thanks
The airlines vary, but many tend to look at tatoos and similar personal adornment from the viewpoint of their most conservative passengers. If a significant proportion of the pax would find them offensive, unsettling, or inappropriate, tats will probably stand in your way.

As another poster mentioned, long sleeve shirts covering arm tats were necessary to keep the company happy. If you've just gotta have a tattoo, somewhere out of view when in uniform would be the best bet. The bottom line is, you need to make yourself more attractive to the airline than the other folks in the hiring queue.

I know of a Corporate Captain and he has a tattoo visible and I have never seen him in a full sleeve.

Corporate/part 91 it all depends on who you work for...if the boss is rocker or holly-weirdo it might be just fine.

But anyone who does charters will never know who the next customer is going to be...

I got my face tattoed like Mike Tyson did......then I was given the option to remove the tattoo or resign from the airline.

Worst decision of my life, I now work in a warehouse operating a fork lift.

I have had depressing thoughts wondering if my tattoo will look cool when I am an old grand pa.
