Delta764, did you ever hear back from Eagle? I'm kinda curious as I was in a similar situation with them a couple months back...unfortunately I got the "thanks but no thanks" after receiving the pre-offer.

I would be very interested to hear how this turns out. I am about to start sending out resumes to the commuters and have a skeleton in my closet. I was cited (was NOT arrested) for possesion of a small amount of marijuana when I was a teenager about 15 years ago. The charge was dismissed in court, no conviction. Went on to serve as a Naval Aviator for nine years, but I disclosed the citation to the Navy in the recruiting process. I recently did a background check on myself and the charge shows up, but indicates charges dismissed. I always figured if it wasn't a problem for the Navy, it probably wouldn't be for a potential civilian employer as long as I was up front about it. Now having read this thread, I'm not so sure. Is there anyway I can get this removed from my record considering there was never any arrest/conviction so I don't even have to bring it up?

There is quite a bit of distinction, between your case and his. I am not an airline H.R. background investigator, nor do I play one on T.V., however, his case clearly has a "guilt" or "guilty plea" involved with his crime. A DUI that was plead down to reckless driving. He, unfortunately is not lucky enough to have a "dismissal" as you do.

From what I understand, airlines do not really pay much attention to dismissals. The things that are jamming guys up appear to be charges that were plead down to lower crimes, and the guys have been misinformed that it was dismissed, when it really was not. Therefore they answer "no" to the have you ever been convicted of a crime question, and it comes back to bite them in the butt.

What was your exact age at the time of arrest? 99.9% of the time, if you are under 18 and unless you are charged as a Adult, the arrest/charge does not get sent to the FBI/NCIC computer database. I am going to guess that your "teenager" remark was broad and that you were 18 or 19....

You're exactly right, citation. I was 19 at the time, hence the record shows up on my background check. I'm doing some research right now, and it looks like my case will be fairly easy to have expunged in NC where it occured. I never looked into expungement previously because I haven't had to look for employment since it happened. Sure would be nice to not have to tell anyone about this in an interview. Glad I stumbled across this thread today. This is why I shell out the big bucks to subscribe to this forum!

Luckily they saw past it. It was almost ten yrs ago and my military background I think helped. I'm in the process of getting the charge expunged.

What did you use to do your own background investigation? I have thought about doing this too.

I used beenverified.com. They have a seven day free trial, just check your record, print it out if you so desire, then cancel the membership within the seven days.

I went on this site and got a free membership. I hope that employers aren't actually using this company to make decisions on hiring.

I ran my name, it had a few of my tickets on it but not all going back to 2004. It also has a judgment listed agianst me from 1992 that I have never even heard of the company. I just pulled my credit report and it isn't listed there. No idea what it is other that wrong. So this is bad info all together.

I ran my current wife's name both maiden and married and it couldn't find her in our current state where she has lived and worked for 5 years but lists her under her maiden name back in her home town.

Then I ran my ex-wife's name. I know that she has filed BK, almost lost her house, got a DUI and at least 2 tickets in the past 2 years (none while married to me) and it shows her record is clean with 0 hits. I checked her married and maiden name. It also shows my current wife as one of her relatives. It is sad that sites like this can be so inaccurate but yet people may use them to affect life decisions.

It is like carfax I guess. You don't have to be 100% correct you just have to have a good commercial. I had a ford truck that I bought brand new with 1 mile on it from ford and carfax showed it as having 2 owners when I ran the VIN.

Interesting. Mine was pretty much 100% accurate. Hopefully this site isn't used by the bigger companies. My guess is that it probably isn't. It seems to be more for people hiring nannies and other household help. Nonetheless, it is a little unsettling that it can be so off in the cases you mentioned.
