Often employers find out about things like this through reference checks. A well-meaning previous employer might talk about the great job you did saving the airplane...but oops, you forgot to mention that on the application.

Or google your name and "aircraft", "crash", "accident", etc. If it made the local news, it might be accessible via google forever.

Also search the NTSB database for that tail number.
