I don't work for QX but I will give my honest opinion just in case you think it may help. The airline industry will always be here and although I don't know the specifics of your situation (family, kids, debt, etc) a good job with a decent paycheck may not always be available. As long as you meet the requirements for an ATP (in order to get hired later on) and you aren't absolutely deadset on working for QX I would stay where you currently are. Now its very easy for me to give advice considering I don't have to worry about the outcome whether it be good or bad. Give it agood think, make your decision, and don't look back!
Best of luck!

It's not bad being an instructor, good schedule, ok money compared to FO pay (starts in the high 50's to low 60's) and it still feels weird to be home on holidays. Yet I do miss flying the Dash and many of my coworkers at QX.

I was at QX for six years. I left there to go to Compass because upgrade was at least a possibility in the near future. The most junior CA is a Jan. 2001 hire date. The top 25% percent of the seniority list is not going anywhere until they retire because they've been there 20+ years. If you live in the PNW and don't want to commute, there is only one decision as far as airline jobs.
As far as QOL there since the ratification of the new contract, my friends over there love the flexibility that the scheduling changes provide. You will fly a turboprop and make a decent living though. Just some thoughts from a former QXer.

How's compass?

I agree that time on duty is "work" and it is just that, but having time to relax while off duty keeps me energized and able to accomplish more while on duty.

Ok, Stay there. By the end of the year we will still have only 48 planes. Not much attrition and not much hiring and upgrades. With what you're doing you can fly for fun. Upgrades will go to MFR for a undetermined time. I am not dinging QX but just telling you that I think you are in a good spot. How long do you have to make your decision? Best of luck.

GF,
Most of us get stuck going to the same trashy hotels in the same crime ridden hopeless towns. Then have to go home to depressing crime ridden apartment complexes within earshot of the airport. The dream is to see a new exotic destination every week and get to stay there long enough to enjoy it on the company dime however the reality is that you are lucky to get 8 hours in your room and a McDonalds in Huston is the same as a McDonalds in Los Angeles.
Home is better.

I work for Insitu based in Bingen, WA, directly across the Columbia River from Hood River, OR. I'm an instructor in the training department but am currently finishing up a six month deployment in the Middle East (I had to pay off the flight school loans somehow). The deployment was totally optional and actually a bit tricky to get, clearance etc...

Don't forget we are starting up 3 new bases next bid so if you do come back your upgrade will be a commute to MFR or GEG. Right now guys in PDX with less then 18 years will be on coverage. Our new bidding system is great if you can hold a line and not so good if your cant. There is talk of a few more planes and Alaska/Socal bases so this will spread out the seniority list even more and be a positive or negative depending on where you want to live.
My wife works in Hood River and I would love to give up my seniority # to be home every night. I'll be checking Insitu's career page more often.

Check the website often for openings, they are rare (at least in the training department) but they do pop up from time to time.
