Question can go the other way as well? Why corporate? I'm sure landing a steady corporate job where you are only on the road once a week, make a good pay check and get good benefits is on anyone's list. But face it. Either you know someone or you have a type rating. And even then all the great corporate jobs are taken. At least at an airline you can work your way to a bigger plane, bigger paycheck, more days off. Stability at the airlines is just as stable as any other job.

Also it's not like good corporate jobs are ready to come by. Airline career progression is probably more predictable and not as dependent on who you know or stumbling into a dream job.

Kansas. Is 13 hard off per month OK?
Rickair7777. First, for some, past, present and future, it won't be choice, it'll be what job offers are there. Second, let's compare the 200k corporate pilot with a good, stable operation (they exist, by the hundreds) with the 200k airline pilot. That's a closer call, but still probably favors the airline guy, especially if at FDEX or DL.

13 is the lowest I've had at my current gig. As seniority improves it should get better. Is it OK? Definitely. Is it great? No.
From personal experience, I prefer to have a lower number of hard days off on which I can plan family life and other activities versus an unknown (but likely greater) number of soft days off that can be taken away at a moment's notice. Not saying all corporate jobs are like that, but it seems to be commonplace.
Not saying one is better than the other. Different strokes for different folks, and every corporate gig is different.

And that's the problem, Kansas, corporate jobs are all over the place, great, bad and in-between. Also, one's goals--I'm a tediophobe, not a mammonoid. I like the fact that in 4 weeks, I might see 3 continents. I did EAL, hated the repetition, but loved the schedule. Now, I love the variety, next trip is Moscow, Siberia, Chicago, after two weeks home. Last was 5 days off in GVA.
But, for new guys, the airline is a better, more predictable deal, no question.
