Has anyone returned to the airlines after several years of not flying? What have been your experiences in terms of training and ultimately returning to the line?
I have not flown since I left almost five years ago but have over 3,000 TT and 500 PIC in the EMB 145. I am thinking about returning, know that I will need to get current again but am worried about the sim (possibility of a different AC type) phase of training without having a lot of recent experience?

The original poster's mins are good enough for Atlas Air.
For the poster who asked about increasing pay: Republic MEC just accepted a new TA with more pay and better work rules.
Pay has almost doubled in China in the last 5 years. Intntl is where a lot of the hiring pressure will come from.

Fill out the airlineapps.com and check all the boxes for all the Regionals. I have been out of flying 6 years, not current and have 3 interviews coming up. Only thing I recommend to you is the ATP written and 1st class medical. Only one regional said they would not consider me unless I'm current and that was Skywest, they actually emailed me to say that and contact them when I am current if still interested. You will get calls within a week after filling out the airlineapps website. (of course assuming you have no violations / dui's or a bunch of tickets etc) Keep us posted and good luck.

You might want to get IFR current before training, unless you have previous experience jumping back into the cockpit after a long absence. You will be amazed at the simple things which pilots take for granted that will be hard for you at first. BTDT, it's an eye-opener.

I was out 10 yrs.I got IFR current and went into a multi-SIM used for awac interviews.the guy team me thru a tonne of approaches, especially ndbs and se stuff....that helped.I also already had a lot of motion SIM hours...that helped.
Note: have been flying about 20 years, and never did an operational ndb approach, but did a LOT in training....In the aircraft or SIM.

All-
Thanks for the advice. I have a clean record and never failed a check ride to include multiple recurrent, upgrade, and downgrade. I plan to get IFR current and spend a little time in a sim/FTD at the local FBO. It just seems a little intimidating knowing how proficient I was four years ago and the intensity of training, at least the ERJ operator I was at.
Thanks again for the advice. If anyone else has anything in particular I can do to be as prepared as possible for training/sim, I am completely open. I greatly appreciate it.

Hi all, I don't know if I should have started my own thread but this one seems relevant.
I'm in a similar situation. Been out of flying for about 3 years. My previous experience was flying King Airs part 91 and 135. I'm thinking about getting back into flying by going the regional route. What are you're thoughts?
