Default Type Rating prior to Airline Training

I've been hired by an airline after a 13 year hiatus from turboprop 121 flying. New FAR's require FO's to hold a type so I'm considering getting the E175 type ride done before airline training to reduce the steepness of the learning curve while in training. Anyone done this or know someone who has?

Question: Why? You have the job, correct? Why would you go to the expense of obtaining something that you'll have to sit through all of the training for, AGAIN, and that the company will be required to train you for? Truly, if you're getting hired on at a regional, you should have already been vetted for the skills required, and you've already flown 121.

The regionals today are really hurting for new hires. If you have basic flying skills, you WILL get through.

No way in hell should you go and buy a type rating that an airline is going to give you anyway. It's a huge waste of money...and if you've flown turboprops at a 121 carrier before, even if it was 13 years ago, you'll be fine.

Yes, I have the job and the stick and rudder skills from years of flying a 1900 with NO autopilot. It's the automation that I'm wanting to get a handle on.

That type rating is around $15,400 last count. FSX definitely, learn the guidance panel and MCDU, everything else falls into place.
