UPS and FedEx are great companies to work for, for now. Whether or not that will will be true in 5 or 10 years is anybody's guess.

.
I agree 100%

Ahhhh, but you're probably the exception. How many guys left FedEx and UPS in the '90's to go to Delta and United? Probably as many as left Southwest to go to American. The question is, who are we going to be looking back at 20 years from now and saying, "Boy I sure wish I'd applied there instead of here"

Or to put it another way, which companies that were "A-list" companies in 1987, or even '97, are "A-list" companies now? This whole situation reminds me of the first time I took my boys for a ride on a merry-go-round, and they fought over who got first-dibs on the tallest horse. The lesson they both learned in the first revolution of that merry-go-round will serve them well should they ever decide to become pilots.

I think MOST of the people that left in the 90s, late 90s, were those being recalled. They had already applied there and were going back. Thre were a few that left that weren't furloughees, including a well known case of one of our guys that was married to one of our gals, he left for AA in the middle of his Capt upgrade during the summer of '01!

But I do agree with your point. YOu never know if you made the right choice until the day you retire, and even then.....
