What would you do?

This one might be too close to call. True, cargo has been on an upswing as of late, while legacy carriers have suffered. But I think a lot of guys in our business take a fairly short view of this. They look back at the performance of a company over the last 3 or 4 years and try to project that into the next 20 or 30. I think that window is a little short. UPS and FedEx are great companies to work for, for now. Whether or not that will will be true in 5 or 10 years is anybody's guess.

Or to put it another way, which companies that were "A-list" companies in 1987, or even '97, are "A-list" companies now? This whole situation reminds me of the first time I took my boys for a ride on a merry-go-round, and they fought over who got first-dibs on the tallest horse. The lesson they both learned in the first revolution of that merry-go-round will serve them well should they ever decide to become pilots.

Ahhhh, but you're probably the exception. How many guys left FedEx and UPS in the '90's to go to Delta and United? Probably as many as left Southwest to go to American. The question is, who are we going to be looking back at 20 years from now and saying, "Boy I sure wish I'd applied there instead of here"
But I do agree with your point. YOu never know if you made the right choice until the day you retire, and even then.....
