That would seem to upend their entire low-cost, own everything, no leases or loans business model. Also, according to Western Global's website, the Triple 7 isn't approved for military cargo missions, which are a significant component of Western Global revenue normally, and the per ton and per trip costs of a triple seven are higher than for the md-11. It's not my Airline, so it's sort of none of my business, but maybe, just maybe, either fixing that mess at SHV or sending their aircraft out to a reputable mro and maintaining them to a higher standard of reliability would solve their major business issues without having to completely upend their business model. I assumed that a lack of capital to obtain additional Green Time engines was the reason that three of their 13 md-11s have been parked for so long: for over nine months for two of them and almost three years for one of them. While UPS is continuing to buy good used Lufthansa md-11s, Western Global's latest md-11 from Lufthansa has been parked for almost 3 years. If UPS can make them run reliably, then Western Global should be able to as well, and it doesn't. Buying shiny new planes isn't going to be a Panacea, and will load them with obligations they may regret when the market turns. But we'll see! The Neffs have decades of experience running airlines, and their personal fortune tied up in this one, and I have neither.

In no way related to this specific discussion....but since we’re talking about ACMI 777s. I heard that the new -300 “BCF” has the clearance to work for military charters. No nose loads....but there’s some opportunity there. Probably why Connie jumped at them so quick. I realize it’s not what WG has coming....so I’ll shut up and go away now....

Interesting information. I would have thought that the military would require the thing to be in production and approve an actual model, but you're right that if they have approved it, it's a big incentive for someone like Connie to order it, given his substantial military book.

But I thought Connie was getting the Big Twin, which is a joint venture of IAI and GECAS, rather than a Boeing Converted Freighter. (Or maybe that's why you put "BCF" in quotes...never mind, got it. I wasn't trying to be the Boeing Trademark Police.)

A simple check of the internet would have shown the 777 statement as flame bait, rumor or whatever else you choose to call it. I read his comment as all in fun.
