……..was it less than that before?

It basically doubled if not slightly more, so the answer is yes.

Surely, even at Western Global, you can't die more than a couple of times?

Hopefully your per diem is not taxed if it does not exceed government rules or regulations. At our ACMI we have fallen into the taxable per diem hit list as it exceeds government standards at times depending on location or city if you will. $100 is a high daily rate, just be prepared if it is taxed a bit on the excess over any government rate stipulated. Understand the situations below.

Taxes on Per Diem Reimbursements

Per diem payments are not considered wages—and are therefore non-taxable—as long as they meet certain conditions. You will be subject to taxes if any of the following are true:
  • Payment is more than the allowable federal per diem rate
  • You did not file an expense report with your employer
  • Your expense report did not include the date, time, place, amount, and business purpose of the expense
  • Your employer gave you a per diem and didn't require an expense report.
If any of the above situations are true, your per diem will be considered wages and will be subject to income tax withholding and payroll taxes.10 The amount will be reported by your employer on your W-2 form. If it is just that your per diem was above the allowable federal per diem rate, only the excess amount will be considered wages.

Max IRS per diem for '21 was $71/day so you're going to be taxed on some of it...

The original intent of the thread was to say, training pay has gotten better at WGA. But let’s be real, Miami per diem is around $61, Anchorage is $89 and Incheon is $125. Per diem paid will be reported as per diem on your W2. Let your conscience be your guide. MIA, ANC, and INC are going to be where you are during training.

In your narrow example yes. Once you get online you will stay in cities where it is not enough. It all works out.

^^^Good info right there on how it may or may not impact folks. Wasn’t trying to be negative nor are the others. I was just highlighting sometimes unforeseen impacts regarding per diem on a general scale. When we bumped up ours, it was amazing to hear folks on the line appalled at the very idea of it being taxed (I don’t agree with it, but I have plenty of other things I can whine about as a pilot). Nothing new, just being informative so no one is candy crushed.

Pardon my ignorance on the matter; however, what is the difference between a home-based carrier allowing pilots to have foreign domiciles (such as Western Global) and a home-based carrier allowing one to pick up trips at commonly visited locales (such as working for K4 and picking up trips from HKG)?
