Come on. If you are smart enough to get hired at FedEx, join the union and provide a current email address you get all the info you need to identify DPs and how to avoid getting them when not on reserve. If you have questions, ask your sponsor, your ALPA mentor, another crewmember on your next trip, or anybody with an ALPA pin or lanyard on in the AOC. Any of us will gladly take the time to explain the SIG process and DPs if you have any questions.
Lazy, ignorant, whatever, those are just excuses and justifications. We're all adults and should be responsible enough to use the info in front of us to support the SIG. That email from the SIG comes out every month before the bid closes.

Ok, lets take a step back. Please read my comments above. I was responding to a post that has been edited to a blank line. I should have quoted it, my bad.
I am not slamming new hires, I am all for helping them and educating them about the DP process in a respectful and non-threatening manner. I apologize for obviously giving the wrong impression to a couple of you.
I am not slamming new hires.
I was saying that the justifications in Gunter's original post (family to feed, low first year pay, whatever) are not reasonable excuses for picking up DPs. I don't think the Captains picking them up can use any excuse for doing so.
That is simply my opinion. If you feel that my adamant support the SIG is misplaced then I can't do much about that.
Once again, I am not slamming new hires.
Did I mention that I was not trying to slam new hires?
