Default Vacation with carryover R days

I hope this doesn't get too complicated....

I have vacation from Jun 25 - Jul 1 (first week of the Jun bid month). I usually bid carryover reserve lines and almost always get them (no one else wants them!). If the carryover R days conflict with vacation, I understand that my vacation bank gets credited for those days.

Now, when we bid for July, can I still slide my vacation days five days later? And if so, what happens to those days that I conflicted in the previous month? I was considering doing some makeup vacation this month and then sliding my vacation. Also extending that vacation for three days. I was hoping to take the entire month off...

Anyone ever do this????? Just trying to figure out if I want to bid a carryover reserve line this month. I usually just try to get leveled then hope to not get called, but this time was hoping to be off the hook entirely. Other strategies would also be appreciated.

Night,

Any jul bid line days that are in conflict with your original C/O r days would be dropped CIC. i.e You will not get double charged for c/o r days and Jul bid line r days that happen to be on the same days as your c/o r days. Clear as mud? CIC is applied first then vacation.

Jul is a 5 week month. Don't know how you would get the whole month off with just 7 days unless you bid a 1 departure line that you could directly conflict with your vacation.

As far as sliding, the r days that were dropped will stay dropped and then any conflict after the slide will be dropped.

130,

Thanks for the info. Forgot about the small detail of the 5 week month... I will still slide the Vacation days and that will cover the first 12 days of the month. I can expand for another 3 days.... I guess that will leave me 4 days of reserve.. Still not too bad..

Last thing, what happens if my July bid has me on reserve for the first five days of the month? I should still be on vacation since I would be already be credited those days from my previous month's carryover, right?

Sorry, I realize I am complicating this thing, but just want to get the right bid to maximize some time off....

If your Jul bid has you on reserve the first 5 days of the month, ( the same 5 days as your jun carryover) the jul days are dropped Carry in conflict -eligible for make up- and the jun c/o over days are dropped for vaca.

As far as your vacation buffer goes, r days in conflict with the buffer are not dropped but moved to some other time in the month. The most you can out right drop for vacation is the 7 days plus the 3 days of expansion for 10 r days total.

To maximize time off is to bid a trip line that conflicts directly with vaca if you can.

You are going to end up with a rebuilt reserve month with ~9 days of reserve.

You need to call like 130J said and specifically find out about sliding the vacation AFTER you've already used a portion to remove the carryover R-days.

Something makes me think you can't slide it after you use it, but I don't remember the details of why I couldn't slide a vacation in a similar situation. It was a couple of years ago for me.

NF: You probably realize that although we earn and bid for vacation DAYS, we use vacation by the hour. If you want to SLIDE your JULY vacation into the JUNE bidmonth and knock out trips in the JUNE bidmonth you need to put in the slide before the JUNE bidmonth. This little detail is easy to miss and has burned many folks.

This is all completely separate from the carryover conflict, as the vacation will be applied after the conflict is resolved. It would still make your life easier if you were to bid a JUN line without carryover though.

As for the number of "days" you will be able to knock out in JULY, remember that all the vacation days you have are simply days that you CAN'T work (except for draft, maybe, I'm not sure). You could bid around those days and not use any vacation hours.

If you have a 7 day vacation and 42 hours, you can knock out 42 hours worth of trips or R days, plus up to 6 extra hours if you want. So you can burn 10 of your R days (45 hours of vacation) and then have a vacation deficit of 3 hours. You will still have 9 R days left on your line that you will have to work. Of course you will be leveled for 45 hours so it is unlikely you will get used much. It will be tough to get the whole month off with only 42 hours of vacation to use.

I highly recommend giving the carry over some serious thought before you bid for your JUNE line and calling the folks who manage the vacation system for more info is really good advice.

I.
Just to clarify.................

With 7 days vacation you can conflict with any size credit hour trip and knock it out. In other words you can knock out a 92 hour trip with 7 days vacation (42 hours), you simply go into a deficit 50 hours vacation bank.

Now if you want to conflict with a 42 hour trip and expand into another trip to knock it out........you can only expand into 6 hours above your vacation value (42 hours in this case).........in other words in you conflict with a 42 hour trip and want to expand into a 12 hour trip........you can't because it is 6 hours above the limit. You can knoeck out the 42 hour trip and expand into a single 6 hour trip.

Hope this helps
