With the level of furloughs coming down the pipe, just speak with your feet before the rush...Atlas, ATI, and Southern are hiring!!
The 737s don’t sit at base very often. (Yes this will change when the B727s are retired, but that’s 4 years out)

I don’t have specific numbers as to how often B737 crews actually sit in base, but in the last 5 rotations I’ve seen maybe 1 737 sitting on the ramp in YIP.

But the entire time I sat my 16 days in the condos (company owned) in YIP back in February, I saw not ONE 737 crew member housed at the (3) condos. There are 9 beds at the condos.

I’d love for any 737 guy to provide the numbers here as to how much ad-hoc sitting they do in YIP.

With most of the 737s flying on behalf of DHL.. well, maybe I just don’t see it with my own eyes.

My grandfather always told me only believe half of what you see..

Maybe a 737 guy can provide legit numbers..

[QUOTE=somewhereupther;3054164]The 737s don’t sit at base very often.Yes we do. I just did 2 weeks in yip. (Yes this will change when the B727s are retired, but that’s 4 years out)

I don’t have specific numbers as to how often B737 crews actually sit in base, Well you wouldn't see us before because we had to get our own hotel and everyone was at a different hotel. ( but in the last 5 rotations I’ve seen maybe 1 737 sitting on the ramp in YIP.

But the entire time I sat my 16 days in the condos (company owned) in YIP back in February, I saw not ONE 737 crew member housed at the (3) condos. There are 9 beds at the condos. We asked to be able to stay there and the company told us "No".

I’d love for any 737 guy to provide the numbers here as to how much ad-hoc sitting they do in YIP. At least 1 crew is there 24/7...but we have I think 3 guys who live in yip.

With most of the 737s flying on behalf of DHL.. well, maybe I just don’t see it with my own eyes. There are 2 737s that only do ad hoc. one is in yip and the other is finishing a heavy check in Oscoda.

Maybe a 737 guy can provide legit numbers..I'm happy to answer any questions

Perhaps what has been explained to me is inaccurate.

I don’t mind correction, thus sending a PM

A few factors are at play:

1. No other aircraft except the 737-800 can carry a load out of Saltillo Mexico (with it’s associated elevation), while still being short legged enough for a regular forklift to load/unload palletized freight.

2. The ability of the B727 to carry a 50,000# payload into/out of short runways is unmatched.

3. The four that we have just all got ADS-B Out and that wasn’t cheap.

4. They’re paid for and make money.

There is little incentive to retire the 727s right now. As such, there is little incentive for the company to move qualified pilots over to the 737, especially considering the associated training costs. We’ve had a few guys request to go to the 737 and they’ve been shot down, a few of them are also 737 typed.

Hey believe me at the end of the day I’m damned happy to just have a job and I’m grateful to the company for keeping me employed, but ALL K2 pilots deserve decent treatment, good work rules, QOL etc, and those things should come not at a cost to one another, crewman to crewman, whether CA, FO, FE, 737 or 727.
Well I think every company is evaluating their fleet plans and by your own admission sitting for a month in a condo and not turning a wheel is not very lucrative for the company. 2025 is not far away and if the 727 is not generating revenue and the bulk of the revenue is now coming from DHL and the 737, that doesn't take a mathematician to figure out that 2025 may turn into 2021. Getting a paycheck to sit in a company paid room doesnt sound so bad compared to the alternative, just ask the Miami Air guys that just were notified of a cessation of operations.
