Remember. We all got into this profession because we wanted to impress women and small children with our cool pilot uniforms. Just don’t substitute tight, stretchy yoga pants for your uniform slacks at the hub. That will bring out the uniform police. Yes! It was a dude.

Thank goodness most of us still have a realistic sense of what this job is all about.
If I have a catastrophic event at cruise that doesn't allow me the time to change back into my uniform before landing and emergency ground egressing, I'll have one mission. To find the nearest mofo with a cell phone or camera and make sure I flash them my PJs and my best one finger salute just for your benefit. You have made it to the top of the tool of the day list. Congrats.
lol.

"Freight dawg sensibilities and realistic sense of what the job is all about"?

Ok, don't forget your sippy cup before you ride the slide in your jammies and flip off the plane spotters. That'll be hilarious and probably get you a round in the bar. Hell, I'll buy the first round just to see it.

If we're getting filmed by cell phones during an evacuation my uniform will probably at the very bottom of the list of concerning things on video. I suspect the burning plane and destruction may take center stage.

Moreover everyone who will think you're a donkey-pit after the event won't change their minds due to the shirt you are wearing. In fact, those minds are already made up today, well before the event occurs. They will find ways to rationize an existing bias in their heads (or motivation to voice a previously silenced, legitimate concern) then open their mouths. Investigators account for this before they conduct interviews, as a matter of fact.

So all that is to say what does it really matter?

FWIW I appreciate the guys who wear the uniform. They give a poop about something.

How we dress, in general, whether we like it or not, makes a statement.

If you're at work, and you dress like a child, or a slob, you're making a statement.

Sippy cup, child, slob, 12 years of age - extra points made, got it. Got my clip-on now. See you on the line if I haven’t already. Stay professional out there and may we all be safe and live uneventful (our line of work) relaxing lives. Cheers Crew Dawgs!

I tried starting a plane once without my tie on. Didnt work. Had to get it on then it started. Good thing I know now professional appearance at all times. Heck maybe the QRH wont open without a tie. Ever think of that pajama wearing slackers?

Copy. Concern over looking professional to observers who may or may not be paying attention in the unlikely event of a day time evacuation after time critical airborne event leaves no time to change out of comfy clothes. Spend hours at cruise over a 20-30 year career less comfortable, less able to get quality rest out of concern over a possible event that has a realistically minuscule potential to actually occur. Filed under clueless lack of perspective and misplaced priorities. Carry on.

Wow, some guys have a real big thing about validation through uniform wearing. I have to change back into uniform pants and shirt after break because normally I have high dollar pax looking at me going back up front but next month when I’m hauling rubber dog **** in the belly to and from HKG with no pax or f/as on board you can surely bet I’ll be in jeans and t shirt after I board.

We have been told a 777-300 with a belly full of freight is equivalent to a 60% pax load factor. Not making a profit but paying the bar bills.
