Which to put that number into perspective: APC calls our pilot group at 422 pilots. That’s about 33-37% (approximately). So that’s very substantial growth.

however since lots and lots of pilots are looking to apply it appears as though it will be fairly competitive. So to everyone interested in applying make sure you have some polished resumes and applications!!

I apologize if this has already been answered but the most recent answers to these questions were from a thread 3 years ago. Just wanted to confirm its the same as I am planning on applying during the next open window.

Is the schedule still 16 days on 12 days off bidding two months at a time? I don't know anyone in the cargo side of the industry so I am trying to get info about how home basing works. Is travel to and from flying included in your on days or is that on off days?

How exactly does reserve work at ATI? Do you sit in a hotel room in a city for 16 days or is it at home and they call you and place you as needed?

Furloughed from my first regional so I'm just trying to understand how it all works. I've only experienced typical reserve and lines at a regional where they are 4-5 day trips with 3-5 leg days. So I'm curious about cargo at ATI.

Thanks in advance.

16 on 12 off is he worst you will get. Some lines are 15-13 and some are 14-14. Travel is included as a work day (one of the 16). If you live near where a line starts or ends you can even get an extra day or two off if you don’t have to airline to or from home.
There is a 56 day bid every two months and a 28 day bid between the 56 day bids. Most of the 56 day bids consist of all the flying we have and hard reserve lines. The 28 day bids are almost exclusively Amazon flying. You could also do open reserve which is basically being on call every day. If they use you on open you accumulate more days off the more days they use you. It’s best suited for people sans families or other obligations that require them to have a schedule. Open reserve gives you a better chance at getting some of the more exotic destinations as those lines typically don’t fit over a hard reserve block of days.
Hard reserve could be every scenario you listed although I will say over 50% of the time (maybe more) you will be a de facto line holder as if someone calls out sick you will just be given their entire line. When it’s slow (don’t see that being the case ever in 2021) you could end up being left at home for a few days of reserve.

Thank you for the detailed response. I really appreciate it. In terms of legs what would you say is the average legs per day?

Usually with amazon it’s 1-2 legs a day (night). Then it varies but is somewhere between 14-30 ours off (not exclusively this but roughly). If you do the other flying (non amazon) it varies a bit more. The DHL that keeps coming back can be a little more challenging domestically, internationally not so bad (for as long as we have that contract). The AMC stuff has some long days but the flying is fun and usually the overnights are pretty good (pacific operation).

Absolutly apply, if you make it over you will find that cargo beats passenger work.

I appreciate the response! I plan on dropping the app in when it opens! If you came from regional flying or other pax. how long did it take to get use to long stretches of work or being on the road? I commuted to my base in the NE from down south so those 11-12 days off a month was really less since it involved commuting on both ends, missing flights home etc.

Seems like even though you work more in a longer stretch it would provide a better quality of life as it takes away the stress of commuting among other things.

Really do appreciate all you guys taking the time to respond and answer the questions. Much appreciated.

I came from the regionals. I can tell you this is not the same. Apples to oranges, sure they are both fruit but they are not the same. The low stress low tempo of ATI is way nicer then the regionals. Yes we have a schedule to keep but it’s not like we’re doing those dumb 24 minute turns. So you have time and a lot less stress. Yes by the end of 2 weeks your ready to go home, but it’s not like day 4 on a regional schedule where you are dying from heartburn thinking scheduling was gonna send an extension via acars.

Some people think home basing makes for a bit of a more relaxing commute as well if you are commuting, less scramble unless you want to get some specific flight times / save some hours.
