IBT

I see on another post that Amerijet just voted overwhelmingly to leave IBT for ALPA. They are not the first or even the second group to do so. I have heard that there are also rumblings of dissent with the Teamsters at other carriers. Not saying it hasn't happened but I can't recall any group having gone the other way. You would think that this would be a wake up call to the IBT Airline Division. At this point the national leadership at IBT might want to take a good hard look at what is causing these defections. If they don't figure it out soon they are going to end up representing no one.

You laughed at me calling us Amerijet pilots “professionals” the other day, now you are saying that hopefully there are some professionals to help bring us a leading contract. Are you sure we weren't married, because you change your mind like my ex wife...

Yea, I made a few calls. A lot of the same guys are still there. Good luck.

Back in the old days, the AJT's, Kitty Hawk, Arrow, etc. would not be represented by ALPA for various reasons. These were small niche operators who weren't worth anyone's time. The IBT would represent them or other small groups in different industries. It was more of a philosophy with them, not a dollars issue. Not sure what is happening nowadays, but we needed to get all these little 36th street airlines under a CBA. The nonsense certainly stopped with union representation. I was shocked when the AJT pilots almost voted out any union in favor of taking a small raise in 2015. That was just a couple of years ago. Hopefully, there are more professional guys there now that can secure a new competitive contract.

You do you. We’ll worry about us. It’s a far different place since your days here regardless if some of the same people are still here. DH was fired Monday. JC retiring in November. DB sold out and is long gone. There will be fresh faces and a whole lot more civility at the table in December. We, as a group did what is best for us. 13 votes says it all. ALPA got a lot more. It’s a resource. We’re the ones who have to make it work and I think we can.
