There hasn't been any word on vaccine mandates yet. If any of the places we fly to start mandating them, then I'd say it would be a safe bet that it will become a requirement.
I am not sure that anything medical can become a requirement. Other than a 1st class which already required and is in the labor contract. New hires without contract protection could be subject to it as a condition of employment.

Back in '09 just before we started flying trips into Lagos, company wanted everyone to get a laundry list of vaccinations/shots. I must have got 7 different shots ( Yellow Fever, Typhoid, Hepatitis, etc.) Place where I got shots (Travel Consultants) gave me a yellow card listing the shots/vaccinations. I was reimbursed by company for the shots. I never flew to Lagos, I'm not aware of anyone refusing those shots, or disciplinary actions stemming from refusals. (if any) I think some Latam countries required or recommended some of those shots, but I never had to show yellow card.

Plus those shots were FDA approved and not a temp emergency issuance. Bottom line, ABX can change their requirement for conditions of new employment (to have shots..), but can not unilaterally make the same requirement for current unionize employees.

With that said, I do not think they will move to any employment requirement. It limits the pool of potential persons and they are not in any position to do anything remotely close to that (we're not Delta!).

ABX is currently running interviews for October 5th class, planning a 2 class of 12.
-Currently Running 2 September class, 10 each class.
-Probably another class early November.
-2 more B76 to come in 4th Quarter 2021
-45 New hires on property.
-A LOT of retirement in the horizon.
-2022 seems to be a promising year for ABX.
-Upgrades down to 5 yrs.

What would commuting be like from New England? Would a crash pad in CVG be required, especially for a new hire?

Not sure how's the commute from the NE, but there's many Options. As long your commute is on company metal you're protected if there's a delay.
Daily JFK-CVG flights on company and DL.We have J/S agreements with almost every carrier.
As FNG you'll need a crashpad, prices are between $250-$450 depending on you needs. There's few hotels in the area that have a good rate and perx for ABX pilots. F/O Junior line holder 01/2021.
Transportation is a most in CVG, you'll need a way to get around since LIFT or UBER are not reliable 100%. You can pair with a classmate and buy a car or lease.
There's no rush for the first 5 months in the company (you will be busy) they will fly you every day until consolidation. Plenty open flight for pickup on days off and make extra serious cash.

Perhaps this is a dumb question, and don't take it as an insult cause I don't know what I don't know, but why would someone come to work at ABX vs ATI, CKS, GTI or Omni, all of whom have some sort of home basing arrangement?

Only if you live local, in my opinion. I worked there for a while. Commuting on company metal is available only if you live in the select cities they fly to. Offline commuting sucks. Keeping an apartment and a car in northern Kentucky sucks….and costs a lot. But if you live in or near CVG…then you have the benefit of actually having a domicile there. That being the case, you’d get more time at home (CVG layovers, reserve etc) If you would be commuting….then home basing gets you more time at home.
