FDX1,

I would not consider bidding either of these FDAs. I have no problem voting for a LOA that would help people out (housing allowance, etc), but to do so I open myself up to a nonvol to either location. And as you said, only for the first 2 years and probably only 2 tours. Why on earth would I vote "yes" to something that can only have a negative effect on my life? I certainly want whats best for the entire group, but not at the expense of my family.

I have been to the sand box many times myself. I also remember why I left the active duty. I wanted more control over my life. I wanted to live where I want to live.

As many have said, they may never use this clause in the LOA. But since we are making it a legally binding document, what makes me think they won't use it? How many times have you had a question about legality and the scheduler digs right into the contract? There is no way I am opening myself up for possible tours to either of these locations just so someone can get a 2700 dollar housing allowance. If they want to open up a domicile using current CBA language, that would be fine with me. If they have difficulty filling slots, they can use reserves, build X-pairings, or open up a SIBA type bid.

Yup you nailed it! I am trying to pass on my anonymous ID as Rowdy to FDX so I can make you believe there may be more than 1 person with a different opinion than yours.

Guess I'll have to go change my FORUM name again to keep you off your guard!

As far as taxes go, the only reason the SFS guys have been enjoying the tax break, is because the PI is letting them live there tax free. Not so for most other countries in the world. I'm not sure that this LOA is a good deal, but everything on this BB is slanted in the direction of a real bad deal. I think the union needs to do a better job of explaining this LOA. I know that the Cathay guys get a great deal as far as housing goes, but if you look at their whole contract, it falls quite short in a lot of areas compared to ours. Ex. they have no duty rigs. It's nice to cherry pick the best from different contracts, but in reality, it never works out that way. Like I said, I'm not sure how I'm going to vote, but there are two sides to every story. BTW, this is my opinion, you don't have to like it.
If they expect me to live in Paris or Hong Kong you bet your arse I do.

Any ideas for some simple stuff to put on?

No LOA!

No SVT!

What can we put that will succintly explain the "why" for those too lazy to read the details?
How 'bout...."You get what you pay for!"

Hmmm overall improvement....STV=Junior manning, Business class vice First Class service to and from....waive of max 2hr ground transport (a little over 3 hours each way..max CH 2:30 for 6-7 hrs)

Why would anyone want to vote away stuff already in the CBA when you know it sets a precedent for later negotiations...next 2 to 3 LOA's we'll be fighting for Coach vs Business. It seems trivial to some but its the start to the downward spiral.

Thumbs down "Enhancements"

Assuming nobody in their right mind would select "option 1" due to the necessity for some sort of compensation for housing, here's a closer look at our "enhanced option" concessions, FDX1-style. This is not a complete list, but I believe it to be accurate. I trust any of my mistakes will be quickly pointed out.

-Current CBA= Leaving FDA: relocation allowance of $10,000, or 79 (CH) whichever is greater. LOA=NONE

-Current CBA= 7 compensated days off either to or from the FDA for relocation. LOA=NONE

-Current CBA=Two round trip/four one-way airline tickets for the purpose of housing searches. LOA=NONE

-Current CBA=3 additional annual shipments of up to 1000 lbs totaling not more than 3000 lbs. LOA=NONE

-Current CBA=Monthly "100-lb" shipments totaling not more than 1200 lbs/year. LOA=NONE

-Current CBA=Up to a cumulative total of $1,000 for the transportation of pets. LOA=NONE

-Current CBA=Up to 1 automobile shipment. LOA=NONE

-Current CBA=Reimbursement for up to 6 months rent for lease cancellation. LOA=NONE

-Current CBA=Reimbursement for expenses occasioned from delay of shipment over 45 days. LOA=NONE

-Current CBA=Insurance for replacement cost of furnishings up to $250,000. LOA=NONE

-Current CBA=Marketing Assistance for sale of current home. LOA=NONE

-Current CBA=3rd party home purchase plan(company basically buys your house) LOA=NONE

-Current CBA=Reimbursement for cost associated with sale of current residence to include realtors' commission, title search and title insurance fees, abstract continuation fees, reasonable attorneys' fees, escrow agent settlement fee, deed preparation fee, notary fee, legally required inspection fee, termite inspection fee, transfer tax, document stamps, and recording fees, one appraisal fee if legally required, loan transfer fees, up to $2500.00 discount points if required (VA loan). LOA=NONE

-Current CBA=Prorated repayment of relocation allowance for early departure fm FDA. LOA=NONE(total payback of all seed money plus any storage compensation- [before taxes???])

Partial givebacks:
-Current CBA=No pilot may be assigned involuntarily to fill an FDA vacancy. LOA=STV

-Current CBA=2-hour limit on ground transportation. LOA=NONE (HKG-CAN-without specifics outlined)

-Current CBA=12,500 lb +1500lb/non-spousal dependent household goods shipment. LOA=500 lb

-Current CBA=Relocating to the FDA: allowance of $10K, or 79 (CH) whichever is greater. LOA=10K

-Current CBA=Reimbursement for cost of storage of a reasonable amount of household goods. LOA=$4K

All of this and Bob C claims no negotiating leverage?

Noteworthy gains:
-$2700.00/month toward applicable to housing costs.
-Tax equalization.

Company also gets:
-Immunity from French and Chinese labor courts.

FDX1/Rowdy1......if you can dispel my concerns that Mr Yum so accurately and succinctly addresses, then I just may listen to your Management 101 posture. Until you can, please return to your cubicle and draft your next email on sick leave abuse. Have a nice day!
