Default I Failed Bidding big time!!!

****!...I screwed up this month and forgot to put my default 9952 code in vips when I put my bid in, and boy was I surprised to see line 8029 as my award for next month! I don't even have a crash pad??? Anyways, fortunately I do have vacation for 7 days starting the 20th, and my vacation bank stands at 67hrs. Is there any way I can use up my bank and try and knock out all the R days? RLG is 69.5hrs; All I saw in Vips was the option to extend? (up to 3 days), and move my vacation, but it wouldn't let me expand to knock out all the R days? After looking at the TA, my impression is that on a reserve line they'll reconstruct your line to knock out your remaining balance...HELP!
Z

BTW, sorry if this has been covered before, but couldn't find any threads on R line/ Vacation bidding. Just ones for Reg line holders...

You can expand your vacation up to 3 days...it's actually based on a equation in the contracted based on the R day value, but to keep it simple, call it three. You have to be carefull about protecting your buffers. The R days that are in conflict with your vacation will be dropped and the days you expand will be dropped, but if you protect your buffers on each side, those days will be dropped, but they will be put somewhere else on your line.....in other words they will put them where they are short. If you don't live here and don't have a crash pad, I wouldn't protect the buffers. Another thing is that if you have a 7 day vacation and none of the days conflict, they are still going to knock out 7 r days....you get to put in a preference...but it's a preference...not a conflict. If you still have a question, post away and I try to help you out.

I agree with all stated above. Basically, you can extend to 10 days, but you will still owe 5 R days. After open time is released, you can probably drop those days, but you will be charged for them on next month's 15th check.

So what you guys are saying is that I can't use up the remainder of my vacation bank????How could I still be owing 5 days when R days are calculated at 4.6hrs a day? thanks for the help

As a local guy that sits reserve most of the time on the 11...I would try to drop those R days the second open time comes out. The last few months skeds has been really tight with the moves and drops after the first day.

That's the deal.. It's a little different than a line. You're going to be stuck with those last 5 days, but if those 5 days are after the vacation, you will also have a ton of leveling going into those last 5 days so you'll be on the bottom of the list...

Section 7. G. 3.

e. Reserve Vacation Extension

A pilot with vacation during a month in which he holds a reserve line may extend the vacation that occurs in that month. Vacation buffers shall then be added to the extended vacation as provided in Section 7.G.3.a., unless waived by the pilot.

i. The maximum extension shall be determined by the following formula:

Maximum Extension = ({[(Number of vacation days (as awarded or slid) in the bid period multiplied by 6) + 6] ÷ R-day value} rounded down) minus the number of originally scheduled vacation days in the bid period.

Example: A pilot has a 7 day vacation period in a bid period in which the R-day value is 4:36. The maximum extension is

{[(7 x 6) +6] ÷ 4.600} - 7

= [(42 + 6) ÷ 4.600] - 7

= (10.434 rounded down) - 7

= 10 - 7 = 3.

Consequently, the pilot could add up to three days to his vacation period. This would give him a total of 14 days (presuming buffers could fit on both ends of his vacation period as extended). The pilot's vacation bank would be charged 46 CH (10 x 4.600), but only 7 vacation days would be removed from his vacation accrual.
