"Another thing that proved to be critical to the successful conclusion of the negotiating process was our insistence on the ability to accurately determine the cost or value of each item in the negotiation. Work rules, Healthcare, and Retirement were analyzed in depth and mathematical costing factors were assigned to the various subsets of each."
Anbody seen the cost or value of STV vs SIBA? 30 day STV vs 90 day STV? Tax equalization (Can vs HKG)? Dd we forget this little lesson learned from contract 2006?
Bob or Jack feel free to chime in.
LAG
I guess a member of the vocal minority.

Thanks as always Tony. Just so I understand what our Union Negotiating Chairman is saying. The third reason he has for voting yes on the LOA is because if we don't....?? One of the most salient points he can make to sway people is; if we don't vote yes then....? Are you sure that's as strong a position the union can make for this LOA.
His main points are, you get $2700 (if, if, if), Scope is improved (trust us the intent is there), and if you don't vote yes then this is the beginning of the end of a union at FDX. Management will have won, whoa is us.
Tony you are one of the best at distilling information into a well written concise and factual post. Maybe you could ask if you could please address the masses and clear up what must be OUR confusion on the issue. 11-1 says WE must be out to lunch and 7-4 says....we'll I don't know what that says. But if we are missing something in the language then someone from the union needs to post facts not feelings for us to read.

<< How come no one mentions the "BIG ELEPHANT" in the room ... when it comes to the propagand e-mails? >>
Personally, I think it's not so much as a big elephant in the room, but literally a poisonous Frog hiding in the Bamboo. The company is allowing this HKG brouhaha to go on because it's a great smoke-screen, keeping the spotlight off the real bug-bear (insecte-ourse?) of Paris. Why? Because the French courts just held that two airlines who have expat employees in France must follow French labor law in dealing with them. And believe me -- French labor law would eat Fred Smith for lunch -- with a nice Chianti and some fava beans. The company NEEDS this LOA, because without it, negotiations with the host countries will be dead in the water. Without the LOA, FDA pilots will be protected by, and FDX will be subject to, foreign labor laws. And why do you have to go on VIPS and sign the Little Agreement which says "I promise to sign the Big Agreement to be bound by U.S. labor law" even BEFORE you can bid HKG or CDG? Because they want to be sure you'll follow through on protecting them from foreign labor law. If you sign the Little Agreement and then fail to sign the Big Agreement, you're seat-frozen for two years (bad dog!). And if you should perform one scintilla of compensated work in the foreign country before signing, THE ENTIRE AGREEMENT IS VOID AND YOU'RE NOW PROTECTED UNDER CDG/HKG LABOR LAW. Follow the money, folks ...

<< During the negotiation of our Contract we promised you we wouldn’t bring you any agreement that didn’t contain quantifiable economic gain. Taking into account only the $2700.00 per month to secure housing, the $32,400.00 per year that the monthly allowance totals, amounts to a 21.6% pay premium for a sixth year FO earning $150,000.00 annually, and 14.4% for a twelfth year Captain earning $225,000.00. By any measure those percentages represents quantifiable economic gain that is quite substantial. In fact, the 21.6% pay premium for a First Officer exceeds the cumulative pay raises of the entire 2006 Agreement on a per year basis. >>

I wonder if BC would consider it a gain in our contract if Fedex said
We will increase everyone's pay by $5,000.00, but you have to pay for your own health care.
Some people might do that because they are single or have military retirement for medical, but I would bet that BC wouldn't touch that deal with a 10 foot pole.
This is exactly what this LOA is. We will give you a monthly allowance but we are going to take away the sec6 move package. I don't see where this is a gain, it is an either or option. Some people will do this anyway, so we should vote to give them that option, I don't think so.
We need an LOA that is for all 4800 of us not for the ones who will bid it anyway.
Vote no

BC..."Before it was even finished and published, the loud and vocal minority was putting up vitriolic posts on the internet message boards and blast emailing the world demanding you vote “no” to send some sort of message to someone."
The only 'blast' emailings I have seen or read have come from Management and our Union Reps...
