Discount Auto Insurance?

Over the past 26 years I have tried to do better than USAA's rates several times. The first question the new insurance agents almost always asks is, "Who are you insured with now?" When I say USAA, they say (without even bothering to give me a quote), "I can't beat their rates ...
If anyone has been able to beat USAA, please PM me with the details.
Thanks ...

I think someone told me once that State Farm offered them a lower rate awhile back, but I never looked elsewhere I'm like you though, 22 yrs with USAA, and love getting those calls about who my insrance is with. You will NEVER find service like you do at USAA any where else! They do my house, my cars, my wife's jewelry, my barn,..

I live in san antonio and guys in my reserve unit work at USAA. I was with them for 10 years on active duty. I filed one claim after 8 years(pet insurance - required in Germany) and they sent me a letter threatening to drop me. My dad was with them since 1962. In 2005, he filed his first claim - they sent him a letter threatening to drop him. Their service has dropped dramatically! My friends who work there say the same thing. I had to drop them because they would not give me a new homeowner's policy because of mold claims in Texas. I had never filed a homeowner's claim. In short, I think they have taken a dramatic turn for the worst. I will say that I had to switch to Farmer's in order to insure my houses and cars. I have been completely satisfied, and what's more I really, really get personalized attention from my agent. Hope that was not too much of a rant. But I know they can be beat, and so do their employees.

USAA keeps their rates low by dropping “risky” accounts and paying out as little as possible. Good business practices until they apply them against you. I lost my job on 9/12. Two weeks later USAA cancelled my home owners insurance. A year later my son had his license suspended. He no longer lived at our home. USAA still applied his rate to our other four vehicles. We were loyal clients with USAA for 25 years. We had one modest claim and the dropped our home owners insurance. I dropped them completely when they jacked up our auto insurance rates. I know several service members that were injured in accidents that had to sue USAA to get them to pay their claims. The idea that USAA has a special concern for service members is a fantasy.
I switched my auto insurance to Geico. With a discount from my former employer, they were cheaper than USAA. They charged my son a lot to get back on the road, but they wrote a separate policy and applied the rates only to him. I had an uninsured motorist hit my car while we were stopped at a traffic light. Geico claims people were very helpful and they worked with the body shop to get our claim processed rapidly so we could get back on the road. They did not raise our rates and they didn’t drop our coverage.
I still get USAA propaganda in the mail. It goes right from the mail box into the trash.
