Default LEC 26 Recall

Put your money where your mouth is. If you're tired of the way this MEC, NC, and MEC officers are running this union, then show up at the meeting and vote for recall ballots to be sent out to the LEC 26 membership. If you can't make the meeting then find someone going and get a proxy to them so they can vote for you. Only Bitc*ing on this website doesn't really make things change. If you really want this union to change, then make the effort to make it happen. I for one am tired of this MEC's use of the phrase "if you don't like how things are done, then run for office". OK, I will but we need to get them recalled first. If you have any questions you can PM me. Micro

How does one go about getting a proxy vote? I won't be there, but I feel sure I can get a stand-in.

A couple of people asked me how a recall works. While you can read it in the Alpa bylaws and the MEC policy manual, I'll try and distill it here. To recall a LEC/MEC rep (not the MEC Officers) a member must request, in writing to his LEC chairman, an agenda item requesting the issuance of ballots for the recall of (Name).

The LEC chairman then schedules the agenda items for the next special or regular meeting. At that meeting the agenda items (request for recall ballots) are voted on and if passed by 50%+1 of the members present and including proxies, ballots are sent to the LEC members who then vote to recall or not.

Members attending the meeting are allowed to bring only three proxies per agenda item and those proxies must specifically state what agenda items the proxy is for. If you can't make the meeting, you must find a member attending and have them bring the proxy. Proxy forms can be found on the Alpa website:
1. Log into the Alpa website
2. Go to FDX under My MEC/LEC
3. under Home go to Fedex MEC info center
4. Links for the Proxy forms are on the right side of the page

To recall a MEC Officer (ie. DW), a motion must come from the MEC and be voted on by the MEC. Union members do not vote on a MEC offficer recall.

That's the way it works. It's time to get some new blood into our union. Although I'm working for a recall of the LEC 26 reps, I personally don't think they are bad guys. I respect the work they've done but I feel that they have lost touch with what the membership wants and don't represent us any longer. The only way to change that is to recall them and elect new people who do represent what we want and how we want this union to work.

I hope you know some capable folks willing to step up to the plate!

Sorry, can't support the recall effort. IMO a recall should be reserved for situations other than individual disagreements.

It's not as if these folks are appointed for life, although it may seem that way since many of them run unopposed. In the big scheme of things, the next election really isn't that far off.

I think the MEC/NC looks at how quickly the DPs disappear from open time, look at how quickly individuals sold back their vacations during negotiations, and decided that something was better than nothing. That the crewforce doesn't have their back.

We are a week from finding out what a majority of the voting crewforce thinks is important.

But, even if the vote doesn't go the way I think it should, I'm not going to take my toys and run home like some immature kid. Life will go on.

The personal animosity that is starting to appear is uncalled for

And what's the option??? A continuance of what we already have??? I'm more than willing to take that chance, HOWEVER, I actually know a few very capable folks who have already contacted me and I'm willing to step up as well.

Kronan, I'm not advocating taking your toys and running home like some "immature kid". Personal animosity has nothing to do with it. It's a matter of representation. You may feel differently and that's why you get to vote. A lot of people on this web don't feel represented and want a change. This is the way the system works.

Yep, personal animosity doesn't belong, but it ain't here... Age 60 and then this LOA. Time for a change in some peoples' opinions and, if they're willing to step up, they are doing just what they should.

Bump to the top. I plan on being there tomorrow morning and voting in favor of the recall. We need to start the process of replacing the MEC officers somewhere, the sooner the better.

It appears that I can bring in 3 proxy votes so if anybody out there would like me to vote for them shoot me a pm and I'll see if we can't work it out.
