hey they built this airline and this union, right. the "yung-uns" should be content to hand them a bottle of water and only speak when a check-list is called. (read sarcasm)
ask someone who proclaims to be part of the senior pilots association how 60 is unfair- lengthy one sided conversation with mostly "I"
ask them how 65 is a fair age and in no way a discriminatory age- not as lengthy and some mumbling about Europe or something-

The thing that ticks me off about the age 60 debate is that the people for it keep saying it's discrimination. What a load of crap! If that's the case, how is 65 NOT discrimination then? I would have more respect for someone if they said "Look, I have 4 ex-wives, I lived like a rock star and I don't have enough money." instead of trying to give me a load of bullcrap.
Well, with most professions you can work until you drop dead, it's up to you. So when it comes to airline pilot jobs and age 60 rule - technically it IS age discrimination because you HAVE to retire when you turn 60, that part I will never argue. Now if they change it to 65, it'll still be discrimination! No doubt about it. The only way NOT to discriminate is to abandon a mandatory retirement age altogether – and we all know it’ll never happen…
Of course safety is a different issue which apparently changes depending on which direction the wind is blowing from.
Now, the fact so many were ok with this "discrimination" for sooo many years and all of a sudden when they’re coming up on 60 they turn it into such a huge issue - well yeah that does tick me off too.
My personal preference is for the mandatory retirement age to be lowered to 40 or so and the minute I’m in the left seat AND can keep very good schedules AND vacation during Christmas AND summer weeks of my choice I want the FAA to abandon the mandatory retirement age altogether. I know I’m selfish here but that’s what would be best for me. Somehow I think all the pilots complaining about discrimination think exactly the way I am but won’t admit to it.
So I agree with you, at least be honest with us and stop using the discrimination argument because what you’re advocating (raising it from 60 to 65) is still an age discrimination!
As far as how many ex-wives (or ex-husbands, it goes both ways you know
) they had, etc. – I don’ care, it’s their lives and none of my business. I do hope however the union and the company will come up with a buy-out plan, or an early retirement bonus. It would benefit them and us, but somehow I doubt it'll ever happen...
Ps. I think you're a nice person too

As far as the age 60 debate. I stole this link from the "other" forum. It shows what's coming our way!...

Totally off the subject...Not sure if it's been posted before but a friend just emailed me this "UPS CEO American Idol" entry - thought it was funny...

Everyone seems to assume that they will stay in the back until a capt position opens up....i see them going to the right seat till a left seat opens..that means no front seats for new hires.

If they went to the right seat, wouldn't they be locked in that equipment for a year from the start of training? I don't think they'd take the chance of missing the left seat IMHO.
