Keep talking about losing the A Plan and maybe it will happen. An Fully funded Pension Fund Pays for itself through divedends. ITs actually to cheaper to the company than a B Plan. (When the markets good and the company doesn't steal from it like DAL and United)

And a B Plan isn't airline specific, or attached to our age 60 retirement like some think. My wife has one and she works for Medtronic.

Albie, Amen brother. Thank you. I totally agree. You're right on track. We think alike on this and many other issues. You have my vote!!!!

Won't work. FedEx pilots die early and often. Those that survive to a decent age make a ton but are fewer than you think.

No way the company will trade the good deal they have on the A plan with all the early deaths for an expense buyout.

Sorry

Gunter, you hit the nail on the head as to why it will not work. Most people think they are going to live to be 90, but probably only about half make it to 75. Therefore, all the pilots would want a buy-out equal to the payout assuming they lived to be 90. However the company knows they only have to pay out to the average age which is quite a bit lower. I'm sure that dollar figure is a lot less than most people think. Especially when you consider the investment value of the money set aside.

Default Let's keep the A and B plan basically as is but...

how about a simple 30% pay raise across the board and then the individual pilot can fund their own retirement needs as they see fit.

Never work.. They will just spend it.. How many don't fully fund their 401K?

Boom Boom -

Do you think there are really guys out there that don't fully fund their 401k? Not being a smart a$$...just find it hard to believe that people would give that up.

You're kidding right? There are guys "out there" who make over 200K and are living paycheck to paycheck, never mind fully funding their 401K.

I know guys that don't even put in $1000 to get the company match! That's got to be a "no-brainer", isn't it?

And, I couldn't talk them into it, either.

But that's the point. It's your decision what you do with the money. There will always be those people who just don't get it or care. Why not let Darwin take care of them. They at least will still have the A and B fund as it is now...hopefully.
