All these crazy numbers to the ALPA system. You have LECs then block reps. It could be a lot simpler. There are too many reps.

Lots of overhead. I guess ALPA has to figure out how to spend 1.95% of our pay.

Did you know some other pilot unions pull a smaller percentage from their members?

But that is a different argument altogther....

With so many reps you think there would be a couple interested in, and voting for, the politics of the junior membership.

But that has not been the actual result. It has, instead, resulted in the most junior block reps kissing the more senior reps butts as they tell us what is good for us.

I hope Aaron can change that.

And you, fdx727pilot, go right ahead and feel smug in your knowledge of the current system. Stay comfortable with it for as long as you can. It won't be long until you are scratching your head wondering why all your buddies are getting voted out.

I take it you weren't here during the FPA days, eh?

You really need to do some research on how ALPA is structured. If the junior guys are getting screwed...It's not due to ALPA's structure. It's due to their representatives. And, their representative's are due to their apathy.

Hard pill to swallow, but true. Anyone can run for office. But, maybe even more important...Everyone has a responsibility to be informed, including you. And then exercise their right to vote.

Block #7's rep's vote is worth no less than the vote of block #1's rep.

Actually, I have had the same rep for most of my time here, from Block 7 to 6. Something about no one else willing to spend the time. Now that I'm in Block 5, I've got Tony C. And I'm not smug, just amused at someone with hundreds of posts on this board who cannot figure out our Seniority block system. Would you prefer the CA, FO, SO rep system that so many other ALPA carriers use? Then, instead of bitching about senior guys, you could ***** about captains. Of course, then you would be in an even bigger minority, because around half our pilots are Captains. I guess it just sucks to be you.

Why pick on just him, most of this board which is more 'tuned' in to what goes on around here right or wrong, didn't even know that the membership can't recall an MC a few months ago either. Many refused to accept the fact that much of what goes on good or bad within ALPA is all based on politics, whether we individually like/agree with it or not. Many scoffed when I said that any recall attempt at a carrier this big better be well organized or the 'politicians' will see you coming and be ready with speeches and a host of local friends to show up at the meetings and squelch any recall motion. Some are learning that a con statement is only required to be published and that their is no obligation to present a con statement or any opposing viewpoint at a roadshow in the ALPA bylaws. Our overall education on such stuff is weak and with the climate being what it is, I don't see the MEC filling in the blanks for those who don't do the research or at least talk to people who have been through it before.

Default Tell these people they can vote/nominate Albie

For those of you that might find the ALPA website difficult to navigate here is a link for the list of all members in Block 7:

https://crewroom.alpa.org/alpa/Deskt...aspx?blockid=7

Login at https://crewroom.alpa.org/ first if this link doesn't open.

I flown with Albie and talked over dinner and beer. He'd have my vote if he was in my block. Good luck.

Is Albie really running or did he forget to log off of the computer at work and someone else "nominated" him. jk Good Luck Albie.

Thank you.

fdx727,

I deserve the critique about not knowing who could vote for what. But as a young SO it didn't really matter until just recently.

But as far as issues, LOA and other things I have more knowledge than some of the more "senior" and well versed crewmembers I fly with. I have gently educated more than a handful on what the STV stuff actually says. They also ask me about the upcoming trip rig.

Should I make fun of their ignorance too?

Yes. CA, FO and SO reps would be great. Or 2 from CA and FO and one from SO.

In case you haven't noticed--The SFS contingent is ignored. I don't know about LAX or ANC, but they may feel the same way. When you have a ton of reps get together, you get more of a mob mentality.

Sucks to be me? That's a great CA response. Hooray for you!
