Default Sim instructor

Would being a full-time sim instructor (corporate a/c) take someone out of the running for working for FedEx or UPS?

I don't think it will help with the abundance of pilots out there with the qualifications UPS is looking for.

If you have the time UPS is looking for - apply and teach sim on your days off.

The thing is it would be a QOL increase and a pay increase. I can't apply to UPS until next year anyway (on file). Don't know if I can dictate my work schedule during the interview for the sim position but I do know that being paid more to be home more sounds intriguing.

one of our c-17 full time sim instructors (boeing contracted) just got hired at UPS a couple months ago after having been out of an airplane for 4 years

Do you have the competitive times already?

I worked as a full-time sim IP at Simuflite after I got furloughed at AA and it was not a problem getting on with FedEx. I had not seen an actual jet for about 2 years but I was (according to every piece of paper the FAA had) current and qualified in the left seat of a multi-engine jet. I explained everything to the ACP my sponsor was working with and it was no problem - in fact we had one other former AA guy get hired at FedEx, and another got hired at UPS - both from sim jobs.

Bottom line - neither company will count sim time toward your total, but the "time off" probably won't count against you. If you are competitive going into the sim job it probably won't hurt you. If you don't have the times to be competitive then you'll just be treading water.

Good luck!

Thanks pilot141. Encouraging words. Yeah I got more than the competetive times. If I get the sim job, it would be for double + what I'm making now as an ACMI Gucci F/O, and of course I'd be home more cuz the trng facility is almost in my backyard.

Thanks again!

I think the guys above are rare exceptions! I wouldn't stop actively flying real aircraft for the best shot at an interview.
