The MD's and the 747-4 for all intensive purposes are three man aircraft because an IRO is needed for most legs. The age 60+ guys can't perform IRO duties. Also with 60 or so retirements in 08 they are going to have to hire in 08...............at least I hope!

I hope your right. But as they have been saying for the last 10 years, " we have enough pilots right now, there just in the wrong seats" With 40ca/40fo plus coming off the 747 next year, we'll see.

To my surprise (and disbelief) I just heard ONT might see some shrinking, anyone else heard that rumor? It doesn't make sense to me and personally I don't believe it but wasn’t there some kind of 'big fish' meeting in ONT in the last week or so? I hope this rumor is not true, anyone?

Ummm...I think you mean "for all intents and purposes."

We'll have to ask JA about that one. He's pretty good about keeping the line guys informed out there.

On another note, did y'all see the MRB on Military Leave? It kind of made me laugh...."try to schedule your mil leave on days off" LMAO! Uh, ok UPS, why don't you raise first year pay? LOL!
I'm on first year pay, and I am trying to NEVER drop a trip. I'm so strapped for cash that I try to do all of my UPS line AND as much ANG duty as possible (I work approx 26-28 days per month doing this). But it is IMPOSSIBLE to get a 56-day line that does not conflict with AT LEAST one UTA at my seniority level. When I try to trade those conflicting trips--I'm denied! They can suck it up, or try to accommodate--their choice! Thanks for the MRB that tells me your system is inadequate, UPS--we already know.

True, I was hoping to ask him myself but he wasn't there that day...

One of the guys in my class took a 6 months Mil Leave of Absence while on probation, he came back when the second year pay kicked in - maybe that'd be an option?

Why not just fly half your guarantee, get credit for a good month, and be able to do more ANG then???
