I'm disappointed that a few diaper wearing, drooling, possibly alzheimers impaired old guys who weren't responsible enough to plan for age 60 retirement, might be able to force me to work past age 60 to maximize my retirement benefits (I know that hasn't happened yet ... wait till next contract negotiations?).

It will also affect my seniority for the rest of my career. Thanks ALPA! Maybe NMB (Non-Member-Bob) is right after all?

Maybe I'm naive BUT........I still don't believe anybody over 60 years old will have the opportunity to move from the back seat to a front seat any time soon. If this passes both houses, with no modifications or ONE dissenting vote in the next 6 months; it's still going to take a method of implementation from the Feds AND a decision from each impacted company as to how they want to handle any change to the law AND a bid affording the over-60 guys an opportunity to move back to a window seat.. Those companies affected most, FDX and UPS, will have to analyze to what extent it impacts their bottom line before they implement any changes to their manning strategy. They will be more than willing to deal with grievances or lawsuits while they mull their decision. So...if you're over 60...lean back and take a deep breath. If you're under 60...lean back and take a deep breath. Life's too short to count on politicians to make changes on anybody's schedule or timeline but theirs.

Don't you know what the meeting on the 6th was about?

Webb just crafted a side letter that makes this possible, effective immediately upon signing of the bill. The only catch is, the over 60 guys have to a front seat in HKG or CDG. This so he can finally say "Hah! I told you it would go senior <citizen>! Now ****."

It feels so good to be right.

Hamfisted,

Oh, I'm not so sure. I think if you are waiting for left seat at UPS or FDX you just got another 5 years to wait.

I can live with that...its an unexpected setback to the "planned" career but like anyone affected by 9/11 or a merger its part of the d@mn career.

So...I'll be on the horse farm or in the union office when I'm pulling gear. I'll live. But this is the equivilent of a bad merger or worse for many of us.

I have had multiple Captains tell me they will retire before the age is changed to 65 in order to avoid the retiring early penalty and the tax hit to their B funds inherent in the age change. According to the bill, "This Act shall take effect on the date that is 30 days after the date of the enactment of this Act." How many days notice do you have to give the company if you are planning to retire?

It'll be interesting. See, most of the guys that hit 60 and went to the back never BID it. They never changed their standing bids. I wonder how FedEx will handle that.........

I suspect or won't be surprised if they'll be handled the same as the guys who lose their First Class for a while. Once they get it back, they are put through either a short or long requal depending on how long they've been out of the seat. Turn on the seat belt sign. It's going to get bumpy for a while.

Better read the bill again. It does not mention anything about taking effect 30 days after enactment. It will be effective the day the President signs it.
