Does anyone know who makes the actual decision to furlough?

Is it 'O'.......or PC........or a group of bean counters?

You've been here long enough to know that O has no real power. The decision might actually get as low as PC, but I'm betting on the bean counters. Every time they wanted to hire, Flt Mgt had to get an OK from the bean counters, so that seems to be where the real authority lies.

New thought....

....perhaps this is just a way to make using the "STV option" to fill the FDAs more palatable.

I can hear it now..."I know we said we wouldn't use STV to fill the FDAs, but hey, isn't it better than having us reduce BLG or, worse yet, furlough"

...it's followed by 68% of the people head nodding up and down in unison

Mostly due to the optimizer, but the company hasn't mentioned that so far. They are blaming everything else.

The problem with reducing BLG is it's like a tax increase: once it's in place, you'll play hell trying to get it removed! Remember, there used to be a day around here where 7 hrs/day was the norm.
All wrong. Reducing BLG doesn't change the MPPD or any of the rigs.

Of course reducing BLG below contract mins is no more legal than changing the rigs or the mpdp.

Are you saying that if the MEC makes a deal to reduce BLG, they will also change other scheduling rules?

You are losing me fast...

IF, and I mean IF, the MEC tries to make a deal, they are unlikely to make it too dramatic. It will likely go out for a vote too.

But I am hoping the MEC will stand strong and resist. No threat of furlough right now, but the threat may surface with the company claiming they tried to avoid it but the MEC won't deal. We will need to stand strong to avoid folding when the threat comes.

I recommend we stay unified in these conditions. This issue is much different than age 65 or the LOA.

No parking lot deals...

No, not saying the MEC will do anything. I am just pointing out that reducing BLG with out negotiations is not anymore legal than reducing vacation or changing trip rig.

The only thing that is probable is the MEC will sell out the lower half of the list and their current block reps will say aye

How will they sell us out? By lowering BLG?

I think all this defeatist attitude stuff may help bring what you don't want. People in positions of power lurk here...

Reducing BLG but not touching carry over or max adds would indeed sell out the lower half of the list.

Dang and I thought no one talked to me cause I was ugly. OK no more FEDEX talk lets talk about hot chicks.

I'm with you.

Besides, I can just see it now, the requisite managers sitting around reading this drivel...slapping each other on the *** and paying off bets as to how quick the panic would set in after merely floating the "F" word.

Come on folks, get a spine.
