Posting 08-01 is out for Purple

No doubt about it...fear ALPA. At least with management we know what their motivation is and we can anticipate and plan for that. Our union seems to have a daily changing and quietly hidden agenda that plays out behind closed doors. IMHO, we should be demanding a bit more transparency from our union leadership, so we can monitor more effectively what is happening. I don't believe our leadership is smarter than us collectively...and they shouldn't be operating under that premise. They are simply more informed. That information could be easily transmitted to the membership, but I suspect that witholding information is power...be it in the union or in management...
That being said, I don't envy our MEC for having to deal with the pressure of trying to satisfy the membership while responding to the demands of ALPA national. A rock and a hard place, that is...I know I couldn't do the job any better, so I'm not throwing stones here. I just want a little more transparency and honesty...just spit the truth out and let the membership deal with it...

I think you're right in that we may be tending to do that too much with our Union now. Personally, I don't think any conspiracies are going on, just repeated times of blowing it.
I really like your last comment - ".... a little more transparency and honesty....just spit the truth out and let the membership deal with it..." It would really be refreshing to occasionally hear a "Wow, we never saw that coming...." or a "We really whiffed on that one. Jeez. We'll start working to get it fixed, or at least the impact minimized."
Fear management or the union more? Interesting debate. One hurts you by acts of commission, the other by acts of omission. ALPA's been fumbling the rock a lot recently.
Open communication has been beat to death on this forum. But, it certainly can work wonders, foster a better understanding, and counteract an "us vs. them" mentality. It is difficult to try to come up with a real, honest, no BS reason why it is resisted by our LEC/MEC. Telling, though, that it's always a plank for votes for new blood, but never favored by the old blood.
Albie - nothing personal here, just the reality. I sincerely hope that you, Vic, and TonyC will truly not just try, but force, some of the changes to open up that area. Before whatever cool-aid it is that they serve takes you under its spell, and you forget both who you are suppose to be working for, and who your 'customers' are.
Apparently, that stuff did not make it to Subic.
