Piped right in on cue.
Bohica...dude...what's up (so to speak) with all the pooper-scooper comments? Is this one of those deals Freud would salivate over? Did this just pop into your mind after eating some rump roast for lunch? Keister-basa maybe? Long ride home from Subic City? Even your screen name's short for repeated a-nal plundering, so it's no surprise you didn't let this one uh, slide.
Probably just coincidence. Great point, though!

[QUOTE=Jetjok;292006]It's rather hard to compare someone on an annual salary, which, from the outset includes both salary and bonuses, and someone else on an hourly rate. The piloting profession is hourly, while management is always salary. If we fly extra, we get paid more. If we fly less, we get paid less. For salaried folks, their pay stays the same regardless of how many hours or days they work in a week or a month. Their job is to maximize income for the corporation and its shareholders, while our job is to move the freight. Apples and oranges. Personally, I have no problem with those guys getting fat bonuses, because they're doing what their paid to do ...
Thanks for the lesson on how the airline world works, without it I would be lost.
The problem with the current situation -- PC's assessment -- is we are EXPECTED to ACCEPT a PAY CUT.
What a concept -- management always looks for the easy fix on the backs of the pilots. Maybe that SHIATZ works at UAL or NWA due to BANCRUPTCY, but is not the immediate solution here with profits at ONE BILLION FREAKIN' DOLLARS.
Sorry for all the CAPS, but I wasn't sure the over 60 crowd could HEAR ME!
Fear and paranoia are great motivators -- if you believe the messenger (PC). Don't be held hostage by management. The true value of a CBA comes out in these situations, otherwise, management would hack and slash at will.

EXCELLENT POST. Comon guys grow some hair on those balls. The contract is the contract. Management will always be looking for some reason to constantly cut cost to boost the bottom line. A couple of weeks ago I had a gal on my jumpseat that was in charge of GSE equipment or something to that effect. She commented that if Fedex,,,,, could they would like to back out of the Greensboro hub. Reason. Its cheaper to operate a hub with people doing the sort (ie memphis setup vs AFW were is all electronic). I'm sure there is more to it than that but that was the jist of our conversation. The reason Fedex can't just pull out of the deal is because they have legal obligations signed via contract that they can't just say ooppss sorry.
Same thing with our contract. There will always be a reason for mangt to constantly keep nipping at our signed contract. GSO is becoming to expensive, we have this little problem with the trucking side, heck do you know how expensive logo lights are?
Sit back and either have a beer........... or a MIDOL.

Title of this thread is-- FDX Overmanned?
Right now-- only significantly overmanned in DC10 and 727 SO seats.
Due to the vacancy bid the 727 SO bubble will slowly move to other seats. But then the DC10 excess bid will make other seats significantly overmanned. That is when things will come to a head. Sometime later this year...
That said I think we should just say no to the upcoming request to lower BLG. I consider it a cost of doing business and the company should too. Thankfully, the contract and company profitability protects us from PCs desire to lower BLG.

I prefer regular plundering, as you put it, but was forced to draw on the Bohica mantra by the sequence of events brought on by APAAD, ALPA National and our MEC.
Not that I like it, I have just started to realize that this will be my lot in life for as long as I remain junior in the ponzi scheme that is airline seniority (which will be forever). My only hope is that I never grow too accustomed to it or that ever forget who it is doing the pushing, so that I never turn my back on the wrong people again.
Thanks for checking though.

Not that there is anything wrong with that. No of course not.
