Great tour, great guys...and a wonderful time for my girl. Most of them didn't even talk trash about you...

If you are out on a medical, can you still be awarded a seat if the bid closes before you return?

So, you may be right...but you may be wrong. First of all it is the principle. Many of us could not vote on the LOA, but I have talked to many who would have had no qualms voting "no" despite the influential talk from thour MEC.
Second, I cannot see how the 2nd or 3rd year pay in an FDA can compare to the 2nd or 3rd year pay as an SO. I am not going to crunch numbers that have been done already. But I still take a plumber's life and pay versus the uncertainties and cost of going to an FDA. In addition, what if you jump for an FDA and then have no ability to bid back stateside for 4+ years? Which is very likely.

We'll have to see if you are right. It is the principle not to $uck, though.
Why should we have to do it? I never we should, I just said I think some folks will. How do you think we got the FO's in the last FDA bid? Looks like a lot of 500k and 600k employee numbers so it's obvious that not everyone shares you love for plumbin'. You think anything has changed? Oh yeah, they(junior SO's) just realized that they may be in the back seat 3 or more years longer. You may think the backseat is a better option, but I think we'll see a lot of guys who were on the fence who will take it now.

Isn't that why they "canceled" the last bid and re-posted it? I'll bet that was exactly the reason. That, and maybe a few over 60 ND's "might" bid it just for grins?

If you are on LTD or mil leave, you cannot bid.

Foxhunter reply on Dec 18:

I wish I could arrange that miraculous recovery. For the next six weeks I'm not permitted to move my right arm using my right shoulder. I can use a rope and pully or my left arm to increase my range of motion. After these six weeks I have another four weeks of physical therepy. This would make a ticket in the pool for late February. I'll try my best to beat that date because I miss you guys so much but I'm told that is really tough to do. I have been able to run or go on the treadmill almost every day so I'll be able to keep up with guys when I return to work.

I think XprsFr8r's prediction will come true. George will have a miraculous recovery. The bid closes on Feb 18.

Sounds like FH may be hoisted on his own retard....I mean petard. After such firm statements about his inFIRMity, a sudden reversal could lead to suspicion of disingenuously ingenious use of sick leave.....Maybe he meant he was taking care of a family member who had a bum shoulder under FMLA

I agree with bus. As long as this crowd realizes that if they are excessed, they can go to any seat they can hold. Since I am only trying to move from 11FM to 11FA, I sure hope the greed doesn't overpower common sense.

I'll say it again for emphasis..."99 OVER 60 GUYS, YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE A LOWLY ANC F/O JOB IF YOU WAIT FOR THE EXCESS BID! THINK ABOUT THE NIGHTMARE COMMUTE!

Please, let me get my wife out of east central Mississippi!

Busboy nailed it. Why would a old timer sitting on the back of the 10 take a narrow body seat when an excess on the 10 is just around the corner. Normally, I would never bet on a future bid, but the 10 excess is a given. ( I know...nothing is a given) Keep in mind a back seat guy over 15 years makes about the same as a 757 F/O over 15. Just wait for the spring excess and get ready to wait in the crew bus as our over sixty crowd takes 15 minutes to get down the stairs with their walkers.
