Reaching Age 60
#51
So let me get this straight...if I bid Capt in the a/c and domicile I want at 80%, but not every Capt seat in every domicile at 100% then I have no right to feel bent over by the over by the APAAD crowd? I should just shut up and realize that it's my own fault and I had it coming to me?
This whole thread seems to be about shifting blame. "It's not the over 60 crowd that's scr#wing the junior guys, it's those darn APPROACHING 60 guys who are gonna' getcha!" Bunk. Call a spade a spade. The APAAD crowd caused all this. They are the ones who are going to cause the seniority list to march backward. Then and only then do the APPROACHING 60 crowd with "fly till you die" attitudes take over.
I guess by JJ and Ranger's standards I should be cleared in hot to b!+ch up a storm. Can't hold any Capt seat anywhere...wait a minute, I could've held Paris or Hong Kong! Never mind. I'm not allowed to complain anymore. I'll just act like an old fart and tell everyone to shut up and quit whining.

I'm not advocating that one needs to take the very first upgrade they can, regardless of where it is. I've said that very thing in another post earlier today. However, I feel that if one continues to hang out, for a long period of time, in a s/o or f/o seat, for "seniority purposes", while forsaking a captain upgrade, then one gives up any right to expect more money for that seat. As I said in the other post, I can certainly understand someone not wanting to uproot their family to chase some bucks in a domicile they're not interested in being at. But if your base is (for example) Memphis, don't continuously pass on an upgrade in that base, and then come and complain that you're underpaid in your current seat.

You're quoting my post of: "Me too, thought I said that" and then coming on with all the above and a paragraph that I removed of yours, because I thought it wasn't about this issue, really had me going.

I think those that hang out in lower paying seats for long periods of time are in the minority. Who wouldn't rather make more $$$? Everyone has to evaluate what it will cost them in their personal lives. Regardless of their rationale they undoubtedly had a plan...like "when I can hold it and not be on reserve" for example (pretty common for commuters). I don't fault people for waiting for the right time.
And who could've known that the age 65 debacle would screw up their plan? Maybe, based on the writing on the wall in the fall (hey, I'm a poet!) some made the jump on the last bid before they would've liked and were thinking to themselves "whew, just under the wire! almost got stuck in the wrong seat!" Only to have the bid get cancelled.
I just think you're shaking your figurative finger when you shouldn't be. It comes across as "if you're stuck as an FO for the next 5 years it's your own dang fault! Now quit whining!" Goes over like a fart in church, to put it mildly.

I have always admired you mannly men who live in memphis, bid capt at 100%, and sit reserve all night. You pick up the really tough trips when the girly men back out at the last minute. Please don't give me any sympathy I am unworthy.

Well, I only did a couple months of A Reserve, mainly due to all the manly men below me on the list. Now B Reserve, with only 3 or 4 trips to the airport in a month is a whole different animal! And actually, I'm currently in Canada, about to go enjoy many adult beverages and watch playoff games. Adios.
