I'm sure O tried to work this, but so far unsuccessful. I'm disappointed the beancounter and FOX empires won't help work this. I think this hurts reliability and, once again, makes deviating more challenging. How about some improvements for deviating instead of the process eroding year by year?? Call your block rep.

Actually this dosen't sound to bad, I'll bet Fox didn't cancel the ground transportation. The only real risk (besides the check-in issues) with not deviating is you might have to eat the scheduled ticket. You can always cancel your deviation ticket and ask where your scheduled ticket is.

I've dealt with her before. It was in a slightly different situation.

She needs to be gently reminded that while we won't get paid for 2 tickets on the same pairing number, she can leave two (or more) bookings for us on the same day. If she can't understand that, the supervisor needs to be called.

She would be in hot water if you never deviated and travel had to buy a last minute ticket or you got bumped to a later flight.

Angry FOX - must not have signed our negotiated agreement

Under the philosophy of our current Contract Enforcement, we've allowed the FOX system to re-interpret the contract for us without an official "whisper"... only moans and groans of agony from the trenches... Not changing the Status Quo? That rule apparently applies only to the pilots, not to the company.

What has the wonderful FOX system brought to us?
- A confusing new system with nobody to help answer the questions – Call your auditor, and you’ll be on hold for hours (literally) trying to get through.
- Not being able to claim tip expenses anymore unless it’s on the receipt.
- Not giving us the accepted fare as determined by the cost of the ticket when the ticket is purchased.
- Automatic canx of ground transportation - even if we join up with the scheduled inbound flight.
- Not giving us the highest fare of multiple revisions of a pairing
- Changing the "need a receipt" rule for internet usage to $15.00 instead of $25.00.
- Not being able to deviate on part of a DH (what this thread was about).
- FedEx deciding to charge us for the tax if we fly to our domicile.

All these rules came about - eroding our lifestyle - making commuting more difficult because of a computer program. And we don't do anything about it... (I'm guilty too.) I complained to ALPA (Contract Enforcement) but I never filed a grievance.

I vent... but I feel better. Thank you very much.

Hey Boner,

I agree with the theme of your post.

Minor detail, though...FedEx isn't charging us the tax, if we stage with a ticket to our domicile. They'll just report it on your W-2, and withold the taxes. The IRS will be the one charging you.

And, all of us law abiding taxpayers have been required to do the same thing, all along. I know I have.

I had a talk with the crew travel guy when he booked my ticket, and my experience was different from that expressed by all of you guys. I will give you an example of what I had (not the same cities or dollars for simplicity).

Originally sched

I deviated leg 2 only, but I booked one deviation ticket HKG-EWR-ALB. $5100
The warning was to let me know that the computer goes and cancels automatically anything with SCH in front, but is not allowed to cancel any ticket with DEV in front. On the VIPS side, the company could not see me as a deviator and I had all sched hotels and ground transport. I even had the ewr leg resched for a 1-7. This was a backend DH, but seemed to work like we would have expected.

I suppose the complaint could be that if I wanted to stop in EWR and drive home and I could not rebook that ticket for 5000 or less than I would be screwed ---- BUT in that case I would not have deviated that leg until I landed in EWR.

Just my experience.

Please elaborate. I'm a little slow on the uptake.

If you only deviated on leg 2, and booked a ticket for $5100, why were you not responsible for the $5000 ticket from leg 1? Did you change leg 1 without deviating in VIPs? If so I didn't know you could do that.

Again, please explain what you did for those of us who are a little hard of thinking. Thanks.

I took leg 1 as scheduled -- but I added a connection. So, Corp travel cancelled all of my tickets and booked one ticket (the first leg of which was sched date/time/airline). VIPS and scheduling saw me as on SCHED.

I was giving my example because I thought this is what we wanted. Deviate one leg but stay on schedule in VIPS. The warning on the page is to let someone like me know that if you are trying to do only one leg - the other will have to be assured through CORP travel. They have had guys get to the ticket counter and be surprised.

That is nice but corp travel has told me you can't just add a leg without deviating. Hope your luck continues.
