I heard a rumor today and I wanted to see if anyone can shed any light on this.

Now I don't think we have gotten to this point and as a lot of people have already said ,we have a long way to go before we get to BLG reductions.

But if it comes down to it, is there a limit on how long the BLGs will be reduced.

Talking to some Very Senior WB Capt's today and they were under the impression that if the BLGs were reduced to 48/60 and subsequently the company decided to furlough; that after two months the company could raise the BLGs back to 68/85 while we had pilots on the street. I haven't seen anywhere in the contract where that contingency is addressed. But I have been known to miss a thing or two.

Anyone have any wisdom?

Sounds like some senior widebody captain's wishful thinking. Doesn't make sense to me to lower to 48/60, kick guys and gals to the street, and raise them again. But I agree, it doesn't appear to be spelled out in the contract.

Not IAW either the spirit or legal application of the contract. Consider the source...probably a lot of wishful thinking in progress.

Meetings going on discussing many of these type issues, and your union's take is VERY different than the pilots you overheard.

Short on details as discussions are ongoing...but in short...those guys are wrong.

Unfortunately, that sounds exactly like what the company would want to do.

Still don't think its going to happen. The company is just sitting back waiting for us to negotiate away something we don't need to. Its time we all take a deep breath. Except for some accounting games with Kinkos, the company is making money. We need to sit back and let the company fulfill the terms of the contract, just like we all do every day. 68/85. They want to get rid of anyone, let them buy out the old guys who haven't been trained.

my 2 cents from a bored guy on a long trip.

Thanks for the replies. As I was talking to these guys today, I told them I did not know of anything in the CBA like they were talking about. The conversation started when I was saying if the BLG were dropped across the board (all planes and seats) to the 48/60 figures in the CBA that we would not have enough pilots to staff the airline. I told them that being in the bottom 300 or so, I tried as best as I could to stay informed and Level Headed about what is going on at the company. I'm glad to see that my view of the CBA more accruately represents the current situation and the stance that Our Union is taking.

Strangely all of this is somewhat encouraging to hear.

Cautiously Optimistic
