Default FDX SIG Notes out early

More Optimizer fun. Boeing OAK-FAT pairing ends with a same duty period DH FAT to MEM. Nice that they found two baby RJs to evade First Class on the 11 hour duty period. Hope whoever gets it schedules the free hotel room whether they use it or not. See the SIG notes for questions about the hotel room and take the hint.

Nice job by the SIG on the hint.

Only a couple of MEM Maddog DPs:

207 on 29Jul, 5 and 12 Aug.

FDXLAG, It does appear there is an opportunity for First Class on the DH to FAT. The scheduled is greater than 5 hours. There are a few flights out of MEM if you deviated (NW on a 319 to LAX/SF340 to FAT), (AA) that are over 5 hours to qualify. My question to you is this: The return is scheduled with the operating leg and DH of 11:26 (Show time plus DH plus 30min). Just short of the 11:30 to qualify for First Class. If you elect a hotel, do you have to deviate, and does your per diem/duty time/pay end at the scheduled trip end time or do you get paid for the next day DH home?

Oh please, I'm going to call BS on this one. I just looked at one of those 727 pairings for FAT. Let's see, you leave OAK at 6:46am, a normal time for most people, fly 45 minutes into almost a full rest period in FAT, and then fly 50 minutes back into a full crew rest. Catering on both legs, no sleep cycle swaps, busy airports, or anything remotely painful. Then on the last day, you start out of a crew rest, fly 1 short leg during daytime hours, and you're wanting another crew rest before a deadhead home? Give me a break, if I flew that, I would be on the next plane out of town as soon as we got the engines shut down. On top of that, you want first class? Well don't we all, but unfortunately for a lot of towns the size of FAT, RJ or turboprop service is all that they get, and unless it's a CRJ-700 or bigger, that means no first class. That's not FedEx's fault, they don't decide what aircraft the passenger carriers use. For you 727 guys, that means a lot of the airports that you go into. Don't get me wrong, the company puts some crappy stuff out there with the optimizer, but this pairing is hardly a b**l-buster. Heck, even the bank money isn't bad. $1300 for the whole thing? That should be more than enough to get from just about anywhere in the western USA, and if I had to guess, the 727 guys living out west is probably who is going to bid this. Even if an east-coaster gets it, I bet $1300 would cover a big chunk of the ticket, depending on where he's commuting from.

Let me give you the union answer, read the contract.

Yes you have to deviate. No you wont make any extra pay by deviating. Your travel bank is what you have to work with. The only extra you have is a free hotel room.

Didn't say the trip was onerous (otherwise I would b!tch about it not being disputed). My complaint with this trip is the company scrounging the airline schedule to schedule the DH on 2 RJs on 2 seperate carriers just to beat the time limit for first class. But we can also expect more of these pairings in the future.

Very well put response. I agree totally.

Actually, I think the MD still has the shortest scheduled leg in the system, don't we? 30 min OAK-SFO on flight 26.

30 min? You must be taking the scenic bay tour. I will have to look at my total block, but I know I was airborne for only 6 minutes.
