Both good guns. H&K has a smaller circumference grip, the Glock grip is fatter. I like Glocks, but the factory magazine release is atrocious. The HK magazine release is great, even if quite different from normal. HK LEM trigger is different, but with practice is THE best short of a 1911 single action type trigger. For the money, go for a Glock. Otherwise, use the pilot discount and get HK, you won't regret it.

I think the HK is a better quality weapon, but its hard to beat a Glock when it comes to ease of concealed carry and sheer reliability.
Glocks don't naturally "point" like a 1911 or Sig IMO...so that takes a little getting used to but once you figure the grip out they're quite accurate. |

You can get the same deal at Sportsman's Warehouse on Winchester/Hacks Cross if you are in Memphis. One of our pilot's son's works in the gun dept. I got the same deal on a Springfield XD.
MARCH 2009: Sportsman’s Warehouse is closing 23 stores, including its two Memphis-area locations, according to a company release. The Midvale, Utah-based company is closing its Memphis location at 7951 Winchester Road and its Southaven, Miss., location at 130 Marathon Way. |

They were the only real source of reloading supplies in the area. |
Is the hk still available?
Web site said it was over 8-09 |
hk deal
Last time I checked, I think the offer is good thru at least 10/30/09...but the price is $545 now instead of the $495...

Just got mine. Didn't even use a credit card. I sent them a letter along with all the required info on there form along with a copy of my ID badge and Georgia concelled permit and a check. Took about two months to receive the weapon and HK didn't not cash my check untill transfer was complete from my gun store. Nice looking weapon, have yet to take it out of the box.

Who needs a gun..... I just acquired a Confederate Officer's sabre. Too bad there's not enough room in a cockpit to swing it. :D

Just got wind of a 40% off deal for S&W for military members. My brother just sent in the form and an order, we'll see if the deal goes through without hitches.

Why do people keep resurrecting threads that shouldn't exist at all...? Seriously, if you can't read it on the TSA web site, then you shouldn't be reading it!

Discount Guns for Law Enforcement by Buds Gun Shop (budsgunshop.com)
good place for airline, leo, military gun discounts |
I didnt go through all the posts because there were so many. So i apologize for any repeated info.
GLOCK has what they call a LE program. Which commercial pilots qualify for. You can order from glock directly and just fill out the form and get the required documents. You can also go into any gun store that sells GLOCKS under the LE program and do the same thing there as well. Depending on state laws and if your a concealed card holder its easy as flashing your employee ID and swiping your debit card. |
FFDOA has secured a boatload of discounts (S&W, SIG, etc). Join and stock up!

Some Glock LE dealers will extend law enforcement pricing to airline pilots, and some to airline pilots only if you are FFDO...but that is 100% at the discretion of the shop. |

. I work sales at Vance's in Columbus Oh when I am not flying. The latest memo we got from Glock had Commercial Pilots and FFDO's listed as eligible for the LE discount...Glock 17/22/27/26 etc, $399.00.
In seriousness, I'd be curious to know the date on that memo because I've had two separate Glock LE dealers tell me in the last couple weeks that pilots were removed from both programs. Glock Blue Label Program | GLOCK USA http://www.doatactical.com/images/Glock_Order_form.pdf |

Glock Blue Label Program | GLOCK USA |

There are a few dealers out there that will honor Glock Blue Label pricing for a commercial pilot, but as mentioned Glock formerly changed the program a few years back to omit them.
Smith and Wesson offers First Responder pricing to commercial pilots, and anybody with a COM or ATP can get "qualified professional" pricing at Buds Gun Shop. |
For Glock, your best bet now is to join Glock Sport Shooting Foundation. You get one discounted, blue label Glock per year. If you join for a single year, you don't get the benefit until the second year, if you join for multiple years, you will get the discount immediately with your membership packet.
|
Someone pointed out that Glock my give the blue-label price to retired military. Best bet is to call Glock and have them put you in touch with one of their LE distributors.
|
The link above leads to a "page not found". My understanding was that H&K ceased the offer a few years ago because guys were buying the pistol for $499 and turning right around and selling it for $800 to $1000.
My understanding is that the L/E mod is no thumb safety. The weapon is always ready to 'rumble' as soon as you clear leather. If it's something else, I'd be interested to know. |
