Not to Monday morning QB or anything, but the way I read it, on approach they dropped the gear, got 4-green, then RAISED the gear to see if they'd come up? ****? Gotta question judgement there, possible problem on take-off results in normal indication on landing, and you're gonna push your luck? Would've sucked if they would have had unsafe indications at that point and had to explain the additional gear cycle before landing.

The way I read it, they were called by the tower because the right main took approx. 40 seconds to retract (slower than the others). No other indication (cockpit or seat of pants). They then spent approx. 4 hours and 120000000 brain cells analyzing the different error probabilities, the eyesight genealogy of the controllers, talking with GOC, MOCC, their preachers, mothers, etc...until they determined the controller didn't know as much as they did. They also determined that they were awesome enough to continue to destination. Thank God we have safe and thorough pilots like these two astronauts!

Ya'll forgot how the LCAs always have to throw that crap out...

"While conducting IOE, I had to exercise Captain's Authority and have student FO consult QRH for emergency defecation/loss of bowels procedure. Complied with QRH, Blah, Blah." 3 paragraphs later, "good job by IOE student assisting LCA with this critical problem."
