Hey Cloud,

Hope you've been doing fine. I am still teaching the 777 and may go to fly it vs. teaching. This swim in the pool is fun isn't it... LOL

Keep the faith...

Whale,
Good luck with the flying job! Is it in China?
Remember to keep your US residency unquestionable if you go abroad. We'll keep swimming in the pool while you're gone, haha. Hopefully next year, although it sems like it might not be until 2010.

Cloud,

I think it will be sooner than you think. I will stay at Boeing. It's an internal posting...

Do we really know that?

Future Bids
We anticipate publishing the next bid in the late spring/early summer 2008 timeframe which will likely include an excess off of the DC10. Given our current staffing levels, it is unlikely that we will be hiring in the foreseeable future.

Future Bids
Once the results of Posting 08-03 are evaluated, we will be reposting the remaining Hong Kong first officer positions within a few days. It’s also possible that another realignment (excess) bid could occur this summer. It is anticipated that the initial hiring of 777 crews will be posted in the winter 2008/2009 timeframe. Given our current staffing levels, it is unlikely that we will be hiring in the foreseeable future.

Future Bids
Upon completion of the manning evaluation currently underway, it’s possible that another realignment (excess) bid could occur this summer. It is anticipated that the first bid for 777 crews will be posted in October 2008. Given our current staffing levels, it is unlikely that we will be hiring in the foreseeable future.

Future Bids
It is anticipated that the first bid for 777 crews will be posted in November 2008. We are currently evaluating a realignment (excess) bid that could occur in early calendar 2009. As I’ve stated before, it is unlikely that we will be hiring in the foreseeable future.
I'm not sure anyone, including the company knows what's going on for sure or if there will be another excess bid. For any of this excess stuff to be of financial benefit, people need to end up in their 'new' seats for as long as possible to recoup costs. The longer they wait, the less likely that seems possible $$$-wise notwithstanding the earnings guidance news from today.

I still don't see what stops them from continuing to post these bids to get as many bodies as possible and then either using draft, VLT, STV or a small FO SIBA deal to get things filled until the bean counters say Ok to newhires.

My guess would be..

-SFS will close as a sort hub
-All SFS FO's who have training dates for other A/C in June, July and Aug will stay in SFS as a crew base; the hub will close but the domicile will stay open, with only FO's.
-Those FO's will be built SFS pairings that will fly the HKG trips.

This will give the Company time to figure out how to permanently staff the HKG FO seat.

Just a guess, based on how many FO's have lateral training dates late in 09.

But, in the meantime, the pilots will be threatened with anything from furloughs, BLG reductions, and who knows what else. I wonder how many lemmings will play into it all, and end up bidding HKG in the end. A few, I am sure.

PSP, do the right thing, HKG is great DVD, not for everybody......yak yak. It is all a smokescreen. Yea......choppers on the way!

Iarapilot is correct as far as manning the shortfall in HKG F/Os. Management will keep SFS open as a crew base for SFS F/Os, delay their training and or transfer until well into 2009, and build double DHs, including over two hour ground transportation for their HKG pairings. Kind of a forced SIBA. And there won't be much of an infrastructure (Airbridge, remail etc) for them in SFS once the base closes.

Ought to be a very interesting looking bidpack for SFS F/Os after December 08. Very cheap for the company compared to other options -like hiring or providing an adequate LOA.

Wonder what the Union thinks of this? Albie, Vic, Jack, Tony?

I heard that rumor being tossed around also...sounds like a viable option to me. No improvement to LOA, no hiring...

Plus, note the change in tone w/r/t excessing off the Airbus...they may not need to now.

I think they will continue to try to avoid an excess as the benefit package is pretty expensive. Also, the ability to bid to relieve the excess throws off the seniority realignment benefits. Essentially you have senior people doing lateral transfers to grab move package 1 with dislocation allowance, house buying-selling etc.

Exactly... The beancounters/management just can't get around this.. Now if they figure out a way or DW gives in on this then we are screwed!
