Looks like the 3 young girls in the aquarium footage on the new HKG DVD were actually Subic kids years ago. Misleading?? Or just good Propaganda??
Got thru half the DVD before it locked up for some reason.

Did notice a couple of interesting tidbits in the script...

First, the quote "Crewmembers are a key component of our success"...a little different perspective than JL's last Aug I guess.

Second, many of the pairings will be week-on/week-off and some may even be 2-weeks straight....I thought the FDA pairings were NOT going to be commutable (...or was that just CDG??)

...sounds to me like they are trying to signal to folks that HKG may be commutable after all...

I believe there are many things in the LOA the company wanted/needed prior to opening the FDAs.

IMHO we had leverage, but failed to recognize it --- or were scared to use it.
Could have sworn the company posted a financial report indicating Subic was closing.

Of course, the oldest news article I found was 25 July 2005. Did find another one where Manila was hoping FedEx would stay, but, that one was Jan 2006.

FedEx follows Asia shifts: move to Guangzho hub will close Subic Bay, region's economy, trade tilting toward China. | Traffic World (July, 2005)
Manila Standard Today -- GMA wants FedEx to stay -- jan20_2006

Refresh my memory, when did that LOA vote close again? Wasn't it summer of 2007?

I do agree that we had leverage we failed or were scared to use.

Nov'ish 2007 or Nov'ish 2008?

If it's 2008, not sure how the union can buy that one because pilots have been trained and living over there since the late spring/early summer.

Were there any announcements/articles about CDG opening in the spring of 2008?

My point is/was that was their plan/threat --- if there was no FDA LOA they may have been forced to look at other options (i.e. SIBA, sweeten the LOA, etc)

the company has stated, in writing, numerous times that they WILL NOT use STV to fill shortfalls in manning due to no one bidding for the vacancies.

so why are all you guys worried about calculating the start date for the STV window?

besides, there's plenty of MEM Bubbas out there that will think a 1-month paid vacation to "The Far East" for them and their family would be a great deal and VOLUNTEER.

i flew with a MEM crew a while back - i was asking their opinion about the remaining FO slots in HKG - and the Captain told me he had never even read the LOA (1 or 2), but voted for both anyway........CLASSIC!!

so what are y'all getting all spun up about? relax - no one's going to get non-vol STVd.

As a matter of fact, there were several press releases about FedEx creating a Hub at CDG and it still exists.

Not sure why you think FedEx wouldn't have opened a new domicile without the LOA. Can't find a single thing in the contract that would prohibit opening one.

FedEx announced Subic was closing well prior to the LOA being voted on. Not necessarily a bad negotiation tactic if the desire was to wring some concessions out of Manila....but, given the $$ we were pouring into the new facility in China. Just not realistic to think that Subic was going to stay open as a hub if the LOA hadn't passed.

Hopefully nobody would have bid HKG w/out an LOA. But, I'm surprised at how many folks have bid for HKG w/the minimal assistance the company provides.

And, I'm concerned that mgt is dragging the feet on the 777 negotiations since a bunch of my fellow pilots might have it in their standing bid at the current widebody payrates.

currently, there are no 777 pay rates in our contract (widebody or otherwise) - the 777 is a "new aircraft" and CBA Section 26. K. applies.

so, if any of your fellow pilots have the 777 in their standing bid, then they have it there without any clue as to what they're going to get paid for flying it.

You might say those fellow pilots are "clueless"....

Can't argue with ya AFW

I think many of my fellow pilots have proven themselves "clueless" over the past 2 years.
