Default FDX-Moving/Dropping R Days

Ok, I did a search-but my search medicine is obviously not strong.

Trying to move/drop R days. Plenty of people on reserve, only one small trip in open time. Disapproved.

Called skds, they say it is automatic and they can't mess with it. Called Contract Enforcement and they say they can't do anything about it.

Ideas? Other than calling in sick please.

It's "The Computer". Pretty easy to program it when all it has to do is say "No"...

Must be the same one that overloads VIPS when open time comes out.

Don't know if you've tried all of these or not, but remember that you can't create a one in seven conflict and you can't leave one R-day by itself. I've had pretty good luck by trying multiple small moves rather than large chunks of days.

The parameters programmed into the computer appear to be overly restrictive. This is a small problem now because of the large number of pilots on reserve. It will be much more apparent when there are fewer.

A lot of small and relatively inexpensive changes could make a huge difference in the quality of life for reserve pilots.

Unfortunately, the "you bid to place yourself on reserves" philosophy will likely be cited as justification for doing nothing to fix it.

And the pain is mostly felt by the most junior.

Just so you know, they know if you unsuccessfully try to trade or drop something, and then later call in sick for it. Might get you a phone call if you do that.

Of course, if you are sick, you're sick....

Call an ACP and have them help. Talked to one who said he didn't mind the call at all.

"The System" uses historical data. The problem is they are using data from when we were undermanned.

Now that we are "overmanned" it shouldn't be a problem moving/dropping R days if they would adjust the parameters.

Getting them to do that is as hard as getting a straight answer from the MEC!

I've been on reserve much of the last 3 years ... have had "reasonable" success moving/dropping R days. Like someone else said, when I've been unsuccessful and had a really good reason why I needed certain days off, I've had good luck calling/emailing My ACP who was inclined to take care of moving them for me ...

I've also had some luck calling the scheduler and explaining that the "disapproved" just didn't pass the common sense test. (i.e. trying to swap to a day when there were fewer folks on reserve and more open time?)

It would be hard to call in sick after your move/drop request was disapproved.

Good luck

Mark

There was some info from the SIG that said the Co was decreasing reserve lines and that it would be more difficult to move/drop days.

Here's what works for me..... Usually, if I try to drop before the actual bid month begins, it gets refused. Might be something in the computer's program...

Usually after the bid month begins it gets approved if it fits some of the other parameters listed earlier.

I have gone to my ACP numerous times (not every month) and gotten R days moved.
