Yeah that will happen! No contract in the future will get as good as the current one we have, but what do I know! I only thought there was a possibility of furlough here only about a year ago and now everyone thinks the same! Hope I am wrong about this too!

Before I comment, what exactly do you mean ?

Is UPS out to get us ? Or is UPS as susceptible to furloughes as let's say our former employer of American Airlines.

Not trying to be a fancy pants, just curious what your point is..that's all.

Shaggy, Shaggy, Shaggy,
UPS says that every negotiation <g>. We will see a pay raise and a better contract if you believe it is possible. If you don't, we won't. Kinda hoping you change your mind.
Everyone agrees a furlough is possible, but I think I have clearly made my case for the most remote possibility and we are not at armageddon yet. (Wholesale abandonment of overnight domestic shipping and a huge decrease in intl. shipping) If there is, then Fedex and UPS will both be furloughing. Just don't see it happening though at UPS. Nothing wrong with a little anxiety, but wouldn't get overwhelmed. Kind of like probation. It creates anxiety, but the reality, unless you do yourself in, UPS hasn't gone after anyone to get rid of them. Nevertheless, the anxiety is real. Interestingly, it happens after probation <g>, but then the IPA is pretty good getting us back.

Tiger,

I actually agree with you. UPS handled the displacements the way a corporation would handle it. In my opinion, very "people-unfriendly" but with overtures of bean-counting, beanie-ologists.

They denied paying most people to bid an airplane and then get paid on bypass. They made a statement, if you want the money, you have to pass the training. I have heard not everyone passed the training and it has cost the company extra money for extra training.

Secondly, they reduced the staffing per airplane. I'm not sure of many fleets besides the MD11 ANC F/O which has buckets of open time. So, the staffing formula even though it sucks eggs, seems to be working.

Most of us are disgruntled at the new Age 65 ruling, and almost everyone has been affected by it, and mostly adversely. Can we blame UPS for that too ? Yes and No.

Tiger, my point. UPS is out to get us and this is the worst place I've ever worked-even though this is my first airline-but I feel talk of furloughes is speculation that we as a pilot group are fueling. Even the smartest of economists are along for the ride right now, how do we as pilots think we can do a better job at predicting where the economy will go and how UPS will re-act. Furthermore, when has UPS been forward of their plans until we, as pilots read it in the newspaper ?

Until it is painted up on the ramp and in our bid package, or you receive a certified letter, then just regard business to be as usual. If you are concerned that UPS may furlough you, update your resume.

See you at F Street, I'll be in the maroon trunks and starting out of the blue corner.

Hey Fli,

I hate to burst your bubble, but you don't get a raise on Jan. 1. Technically, it goes into effect the first full pay period following Jan. 1. I thought I would rain on your parade.

Sorry for butting in, but can you expound on the statement that UPS is the worst place you've ever worked?

If you hate it that much, there are plenty of guys like me willing to take your spot. I think it's interesting that you hate what most think the best job in the industry is

FliFast - "... UPS is out to get us and this is the worst place I've ever worked-even though this is my first airline-but I feel talk of furloughes is speculation that we as a pilot group are fueling..."

I too am surprised to hear you say that. I've been at 3 airlines prior to UPS and UPS ranks very high in my comparison, in fact it ranks #1 when it comes to my previous jobs... Also, I thought you used to work at TWA/AA and if so why do you say UPS is your first airline?

Now, many times I do scratch my head when it comes to the 'beaniology' mentality present here as you stated it earlier but do you really mean it when you say it's "the worst place you've ever worked." Really?

PS. Is the F-street boycott over?

You both should know, that after 7 airlines, this is by far the best. It was a poke at the self-proclaimed folks that are airline experts even though they have nothing to compare it to.

C'mon guys, you know better :-)
