When UPS was starting out as an airline, they ordered a few hundred flight bags for their anticipated new hires. They needed them in a hurry, so they were (so I'm told) ordered with overnight delivery. The next day, when the bags were delivered, they were black, not brown, and they were delivered by Federal Express. Needless to say, they were returned immediately, and new ones, brown this time, were ordered through another vendor. At least that's the story that was going around back then.

World, when still leasing 801,803, and 804, was asked by UPS to send some mx paperwork and logbooks up for their records. Guess how we sent the requested documents???? Yup, FedEx. I thought that was brilliant! Way back when, it used to amuse me when I worked at FedEx to see the UPS package car roll up for deliveries at our ramp.

I ordered some european train tickets a few years ago through our in house travel department for company travel. They came FDX overnight. Go figure!

This year, I'm doing my best to support both the passenger airlines and cargo airlines by flying to Europe myself, but shipping Christmas gifts (including that masculine Citizen Skyhawk watch for my masculine brother-in-law ). If I send them through FedEx, will my sister open the door to find a UPS guy?

Years ago, while still a starving "reservists desparately seeking glamorous airline job," a USair buddy mentioned one of his old marine buds was a top-dog at UPS, and he wanted my stellar resume' so as to get me hired. I gave said resume' to my USair bud quickly, and could picture myself in that beautiful brown flasher raincoat. A couple of weeks later, I discovered the cheap USair Captain had Fedex'd my resume to UPS, because he got a discount with Fedex! Game over, pretty funny story now that I am a purple dude!

And I absolutely made an assumption (incorrectly, it turns out) that a FedEx subsidiary, shipping to a FedEx employee would not ship UPS.
If it makes you feel any better - several former Mailboxes Etc. stores (now part of "The UPS Store" chain) are still using both UPS and Fedex for shipping. At least that's what I've been told...

Prisoner Escapes In Giant FedEx Box
(DailyMail.co, Nov. 20)

Police in Germany are searching for a prisoner who escaped by FedExing himself in a box. Yasar Bayrak, 37, has been on the run since November 10. Bayrak, who was jailed for drug-related offences, escaped from jail by posting himself out of prison in a giant FedEx box used for dirty laundry.
He hid in the package which was then loaded onto a van and driven through the gates at the prison in Willich near Dusseldorf, western Germany. He is understood to have fled when the driver made his next stop.

Did he get a ride with Mannfred or Benji?
