Finally a voice of reason--or at least a great point. If the only way to stave off furloughs is by working for half pay, this job is not worth having! At least in a furlough you can seek full time pay. Half pay is not a viable option as a primary means of cost reduction.

There does come a point when acts of desperation that gut a good contract are probably worth walking away from. How hard will it be to negotiate your next pay raise when the company says "..well...its obvious to us that X number of guys made it on 50% of what we pay you. Why do you need an X percent raise?"

FWIW...I'm 1200 from the bottom at your competitor, and this year we've done made several changes. First...my wife is back at work as of last week. Next, I'm interviewing at another (non airline) consulting business to see if we might be a good match. Finally...even though I retired from the ANG I've been attempting to get back in for a part time (non flying) gig. I'm shared all that with folks at my own company. In short--I think things are okay where I am, but I am preparing for storms ahead "just in case..."

I love my job, and like most of you guys I like our contract. When people start talking about giving back any part of it that you've worked so hard to attain, I get very nervous. You need to keep the value of the job.

Good luck to all of you... I know this is tough on everyone.

Yea, let's ask those with the lowest pay to sacrifice 50% leaving about 3,000 after taxes...

Alot of people in this country would kill for $3,000 after taxes right now. Or you could lose your job and live on $275 a week unemployment Careful before you complain, you could be on the street without a pot to **** in. Good luck getting job in another profession, there are not any jobs there either and you will not be able to make $6k a month.

cp
bottom 300
Just took a look at the details of this MOU for the first time--
cp-- I suspect a good number of those in the bottom 300 will be taking long term MIL Leave (like myself). This will save 100% of my salary for up to 5 years (what I put on the survey) if I can find orders for that long each fiscal year. Lil J can thank me for sparing him from moving to ANC with further expletive-filled PMs. You're welcome in advance.

Pretty good for sure ...

3 bases in less than 2 years, 2 long training events, and the ultimate move to ANC.

if that's not livin' large, I don't know what is !

A much as guys EXPECT the bottom 300 to join the programs. Life would be a REAL ***** for the whole list if 300 would be cut loose. All of a sudden someone holding commutes would be stuck doing base line trips, or kicked onto reserve ...

This isn't just about saving 300. Its about preserving your current bidding life style for half of the list.

I can go downtown DC and get a job close to or over 6 figures with my security clearance. I'll be working more than 8 days a month but won't be going into debt in the process either. What's the alternative? Get a second job to supplement my UPS income...same result of having to work more to earn more. If I could afford to work one week per month and still maintain a decent QOL, I'd probably be ready to retire.
